HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Animal Care Advisory Committee - 01/19/2022MINUTES OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI ANIMAL CARE ADVISORY MEETING Conference Room, 2626 Holly Minutes from January 19", 2022 Members Present: Jarvis Amaya, Linda Gibeaut, Deborah Shores, Chris Baker Members Absent: Sharon Ray, Kelsey Chopelas, Connie Bowen City Staff: Joel Skidmore, Jackie Torres Public Present: None I. Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Jarvis at 12:43 p.m. II. Roll Call of Members Roll was called, and a quorum was confirmed. III. Public Comments None IV. Discussion and Auuroval of Minutes from November 17th, 2021 Ms. Gibeaut motioned to approve. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously. V. Discussion and Approval of Absences from November 17'h, 2021 Sharon Ray. Linda Gibeaut motioned to approve. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously. VI. Department Presentation and Discussion Region 11 Zoonosis Report — Mr. Skidmore reviewed the most recent Zoonosis Quarterly report published in December 2021. There is nothing new to report. Current Shelter Report and Clinic Report — Joel Skidmore went over the CCACS Comparison Shelter Report for November 2020/2021 and December 2020/2021. Mr. Skidmore explained the average length of stay for cats is longer and not contributing to the live release out. There were some cats that were euthanized due to being too sick or too injured. Mr. Skidmore went on to address the citation numbers are lower this year but anticipate the number of citations issued to increase when the probation period of the Officers in training is up. He addressed the reported microchip activity is incorrect but the numbers are accurate and is working on correct the issue. Ms. Gibeaut questioned the clinic report for November 2021. Mr. Skidmore explained the adopted animal numbers are higher than the spay/neuters is due to citizens taking on the responsibility of spay/neuters by accepting a Sterilization Order. Ms. Gibeaut inquired on the status of the Veterinarian position. Mr. Skidmore explained it is still available and multiple avenues are being pursed to attract applicants. Mr. Baker inquired on the average length of stay on cats also and Mr. Skidmore clarified that the days are counted until the animal is outcome. Mr. Baker inquired if there any exceptions to the spay/neuter requirement of an adopted animal. Mr. Skidmore explained for medical reasons there can be exceptions made if the issue is noted by a Veterinarian on a company letter head. Ms. Gibeaut inquired on a report of how many adopters comply with the sterilization. On December 2020/2021 Shelter report Mr. Baker inquired on the Failure to Reclaim citations reported in comparison to November 2020/2021. Mr. Skidmore advised he would look into the difference however believed it had to do with the citation numbers and does include quarantine animals. Program Manager Update — After reviewing the Shelter and Clinic Reports Mr. Skidmore addressed the Board with any other additional questions/concerns. Ms. Gibeaut inquired on information on facility improvements. Mr. Skidmore did advise there has been a discussion and requests mad but nothing official or on paper to present. Ms, Gibeaut expressed her concern with fencing for the runs. Mr. Skidmore advised he would try to find a email trail with the improvements requested.
