Absent: Ida Hobbs
Staff Present: Laura Garcia, Library Director
Call to Order: Alice Nixon called the meeting to order at 10:41 AM .
Approval of Minutes: A motion to approve the December minutes was made by Pooja Bindingnavele
and seconded by Dora Wilburn. The motion passed unanimously.
Friends of the Library Report: Sharron Hines handed out the minutes for the December meeting of the
Friends of the Corpus Christi Public Libraries. She highlighted the Friends' role in the Teen Book Fest.
She also had copies of the Friends' newsletter to give to Board members.
Director's Report:
• Hopkins Library will not be using the Northwest Senior Center while work on the branch is
being done.
• The modernization of the La Retama Central Library freight elevator is almost complete; staff
will be able to use it once it passes inspection. This elevator will be able to go up to the third
floor.
• The dedication of the Local History Room to Murphey Givens is scheduled for March.
• The RFID project continues to move along and should be implemented in the Spring.
• City Manager Peter Zanoni is planning to attend a Library Board meeting soon to discuss plans
for La Retama Central Library. Mrs. Garcia said improvements to the exterior include
landscaping, with some modifications for the first and second floors.
• Residents wanting to donate items, such as blankets, needed during the winter months at the
Animal Care Services shelter were able to drop of their donations at any of the libraries from
December 6-December 23. 276 items were received. Library locations and hours made it more
convenient for residents to donate.
• Airport services has asked the libraries to partner with them to promote an art contest for middle
and high school students in the area.
• La Retama Central Library served as a warming center on Monday, 3 January, and had 42
people come in to stay warm.
Old Business: The Board discussed how to proceed with the Board's Annual Report due to City Council
by January 31. All agreed that the Board will work on it through emails in the next several weeks. Julie
Rogers said that she would spearhead getting a City Proclamation for National Library Week (April 3 – 9,
2022) as one of the Board's goals.
New Business: A schedule for meeting at the different library branches was postponed.
Nicole Carroll moved that the absence of Ida Hobbs be excused. Sharron Hines seconded the motion
and it passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 11:34 AM.
