Roll Call Liaison Triston Crossland performed roll call. Present: Melody H. Cooper, Susane "Westi" Horn, Almira Flores, Deacon Marck C. Arnold, Valerie Harbolovic, Mirza Pearson, Adria Vasquez Absent: Luis F. Cabrera C. Public Comment No public comment was provided. D. Approval of Minutes and Action on Absences 1. Approval of Minutes for the March 7, 2022 Sister City Committee Regular Meeting Attachments: 03.07.22 SCC Minutes Motion to approve made by Susane Horn, seconded by Adria Vasquez. Motion carried unanimously with Melody Cooper not voting and Luis Cabrera not in attendance. E. Mexico Sister City Outreach - Mirza Pearson /Valerie Harbolovic Tammy Embrey updated the committee on her connection with a representative from Monterrey. Valerie Harbolovic voiced her desired goal for the committee to establish contact with Sister City counterparts in Veracruz. The Committee discussed the potential for inviting counterparts from Playa del Carmen for a future Sister City committee meeting to continue the committee's effort to establish reliable lines of communication between sister cities. 3. Student Exchange Program -Almira Flores/ Luis Cabrera/Susane Horn / Valerie Harbolovic Mirza Pearson offered the idea of reaching out to local schools throughout the community and gauging their interest in offering their own exchange program with Sister City counterparts; the Committee would support that effort, but leave the program structure to individual schools. 4. Cultural Exchange Program - Melody Cooper/Valerie Harbolovic/ Mirza Pearson Chairperson Melody Cooper updated the committee on the tentative travel schedule for the Corpus Christi Delegation's trip to Agen, France in May. Items for completion included a press release recognizing the upcoming concert, and the procurement of gifts for presenting to the Mayor of Agen and counterparts in honor of this important cultural exchange. The Committee discussed potential venues for when Corpus Christi hosts the Agen Delegation later this year. Potential venues included Wolfe Recital Hall and Richardson Performance Hall. Valerie Harbolovic offered to inquire regarding the availability of Santa Fe Swimming Club for meetings during this time. 5. 60th Anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Corpus Christi, Texas and Yokosuka, Japan - Mirza Pearson Mirza Pearson updated the committee on efforts regarding the 60th Anniversary between Yokosuka and Corpus Christi. Counterparts from Agen requested a video message from the Mayor recognizing this important occasion, and Valerie Harbolovic offered her support for crafting messages to be shared on social media leading up to the event. The procurement of official photographs of Corpus Christi was discussed as well, with a deadline of June 27th gathering roughly 25 photos. Mirza stated the cost of hiring a professional photographer was $1,700 for what the committee needed. Yokosuka requested our participation in their upcoming 2022 Naval Sea Legs Challenge, set to take place May 26-31. A request was made for Mayor Guajardo's participation in social media efforts beginning on May 25th. Chairperson Melody Cooper motioned to hire the photographer for the committee's needs regarding the 60th Anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Yokosuka, City of Corpus Christi Page 2 Printed on 5/4/2022 Sister City Committee Meeting Minutes April 11,2022 Japan and Corpus Christi. The motion was seconded by Adria Vasquez. Motion carried unanimously. 6. FY22-23 Budget Discussion - Mirza Pearson / Luis Cabrera/ Melody Cooper Liaison Triston Crossland provided committee members with a current list of committee expenditures. Tammy Embrey updated the committee with a timeline of City due dates regarding FY23 budget. Tammy noted that a forecast was necessary expected expenses for the rest of this year, as well as a separate forecast for expected expenses for next year. It was expressed that Adria would be working on the committee's budget and preparing that information for review. F. Identify items to be placed on May 2, 2022 agenda There were no new items identified for discussion. G. Adjournment Motion to adjourn made by Valerie Harbolovic, seconded by Mirza Pearson. The motion carried unanimously with Melody Cooper not present and Luis Cabrera absent. This meeting may be held via videoconference call pursuant to Texas Government Code § 551.127. If this meeting is held via videoconference call or other remote method of meeting, then a member of this governmental body presiding over this meeting will be physically present at the location of this meeting unless this meeting is held pursuant to Texas Government Code § 551.125 due to an emergency or other public necessity pursuant to Texas Government Code § 551.045.
