A. Call To Order
Chair Alice Nixon called the meeting to order at 10:40 a.m.
B. Roll Call
Present: 8- Chair Alice Nixon, Dora Wilburn, Sharron Hines, Pooja Bindingnavele,Vice Chair Julie
Rogers,Vickie C. Natale,Veronica Towns, and Nicole Carroll
C. Public Comment
None
D. Approval of Minutes and Action on Absences
A motion to approve the April minutes was made by Vickie Natale and seconded by
Dora Wilburn. The motion passed unanimously. Nicole Carroll and Pooja Bindingnavele
requested that their absences from the April meeting be excused. Sharron Hines moved
to excuse the absences. Julie Rogers seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

E. Friends Liaison Report
2. 22-0747 The Friends of the Library Report
Sharon Hines indicated Friends Board members received self-checkout demonstration
at their last meeting. Paperbacks donated to the Friends have been picked up by
Nueces County jail staff.

3. 22-0841 Reconsideration of Material
Misty Atwood, Garcia Library Branch Manager, gave the Board an overview of the
process of reconsideration of library material. She had examples of books that libraries
are frequently asked to remove from their collections. Misty talked about how a request
for reconsideration is handled at CCPL including the lines of communication between
patron and staff. The Board found the presentation interesting and enlightening.
G. Directors Report
Staff is working on the Summer Library Brochure and Summer Reading Program
activities.
Week of the Young Child was a success with 682 attendees.
La Retama Central Library will have a local author program on June 4 and Maker's Day
Art Expo on June 11.
Career On-Line High School, sponsored by the Friends of the Library and Library
Foundation has had a total of 21 graduates since 2019, 4 individuals are currently
enrolled, and 12 scholarships are currently available.
A trial pop-up library will be provided on the Island, related to the Island Rotary Club
discussions, further information will be provided at the next meeting.
The budget process for FY 2023 has started, preliminary package being prepared.
Working with PIO to promote Summer Reading program in the May utility bill.
H. Unfinished Business; None
I. New Business for Discussion and Possible Action
Alice Nixon informed the board that she will be out of town during the June meeting. Vice
Chair Julie Rogers will preside over the June 7 meeting which will be held at La Retama
Central.
4. 22-0778 National Voters Registration Act- Library requirements
The National Voters Registration Act implementation plan was provided to the board.
5. 22-0858 Board vacancy - 1
The board was notified of Ida Hobbs' resignation.
