Upon request, this information can be available in larger print and/or in electronic format. A. Call To Order The September 12th Special meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. B. Roll Call Present: 7- Vice Chair Charles Pendlyshok,Alyssa B. Mason, Don Dunlap, Curt Broomfield, John Wood, John Murray, and Robert Kelley Excused: 2- Chair Richard E. Bell, and Marcus Veazey C. Public Comment Chief of Staff, Michael Rodriguez, Will Durham, and Gisell Orozco were in attendance. D. Approval of Minutes and Action on Absences 1. 22-1597 Minutes for the August 1st regular meeting Attachments: MACMinsAug22.pdf The minutes for the August 1 st regular meeting were approved. E. Committee Reports N/A F. Director's Report Mr. Atwood advised new no fishing signage with slightly amended wording is on order. An individual presented a proposal to bring a fuel station with a bar and sporting center to the L head. They would provide staff 6 days a week from 6am-7pm to service tenants, transients, and hopefully fishing charters. Mr. Atwood spoke with Amy in the City's legal department regarding an email sent from one of the board members that copied the entire board. This action could be a violation of the Open Meetings Act because it could lead to discussion among board members. Aimee will attend the October board meeting to review the Open Meetings Act. The air conditioner at the Coopers Alley boaters facility has been out for a month, facility maintenance has an 8 week wait time for parts. Futures events are Conquer the Coast on September 17th and the USCG Auxiliary class "Suddenly in Command" on September 24th. Unfinished Business 3. 22®1610 Capital Improvement Projects Mr. Atwood advised the Corps of Engineers issued a permit for half of what is required for the pier construction project. On September 9th Urban Engineering said Marine Fisheries is holding up the permit. Mr. Kelley inquired what the Marine Fisheries information request timeline is and Mr. Atwood did not know. Engineering has selected a design firm for the Coopers Alley boater's facility and haul out facility project. Jacobs Engineering has been selected and approved by City Council for the Peoples Street boardwalk project. IT has installed indoor WiFi access points in the Lawrence Street, Peoples Street, and haul out facilities. Outdoor access points are due to be installed by November if not earlier. H. New Business for Discussion and Possible Action 4. 22®1609 Bay Dredging Upate Per Mr. Atwood Chairman Bell approached the Port of Corpus Christi after a catamaran ran aground during the Navy Day regatta. The Port is aware and in contact with the dredging contractor about dredge material being dumped outside the designated spoil area. Mr. Kelley advised a friend covered a 60 acre area in the bay that had white PVC markers, but they are barely visible. They found that a third of the bay is no longer usable to racers. Mr. Pendlyshok requested an update from the Port and Mr. Atwood said Dan Koesema from the Port could possibly attend the November meeting. 5. 22®1612 Marina Staff Mr. Atwood advised the marina has 2 vacant positions we are working on filling. Once filled we will have all the staff we are budgeted to support. 6. 22®1613 Trash Mr. Atwood said we received less debris in the marina during the latest rain event. Marina staff collected trash using dip nets. A project to put a trash collection system at the outfalls has been approved and will be maintained by the Storm Water department. 7. 22®1614 Fishing Charters and Boat Tours Mr. Atwood believes as projects are completed in the marina we will be able to sustain City of Corpus Christi Page 2 Printed on 101412022 Marina Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes -Final September 12,2022 charter businesses. Mr. Broomfield suggested speaking with the Regional Transit Authority to bring back a ferry. 8. 22-1615 Tourism in the marina Mr. Atwood advised once the Peoples Street boardwalk project is complete we will see more tourists coming down from the seawall. Visit Corpus Christi is working on various programs for the downtown area to include the marina. Mr. Broomfield believes the marina qualifies for HOT tax and it should be looked into. 9. 22-1616 Restaurants Mr. Atwood stated we are not in a position to bring more restaurants down to the t-heads. We have very limited space and what vacant space we have is dedicated to parking for marina tenants, restaurant patrons, and the general public. During special events, such as the Fourth of July fireworks, the t-heads are at maximum capacity. I. Future Agenda Items Lighted Boat Parade, Marina Office, Overview of the Open Meetings Act J. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m. This meeting may be held via videoconference call pursuant to Texas Government Code § 551.127. If this meeting is held via videoconference call or other remote method of meeting, then a member of this governmental body presiding over this meeting will be physically present at the location of this meeting unless this meeting is held pursuant to Texas Government Code § 551.125 due to an emergency or other public necessity pursuant to Texas Government Code § 551.045.
