Upon request, this information can be available in larger print and/or in electronic format. A. Call To Order Alice Nixon called the meeting to order at 10:31 am. B. Roll Call Present: 9- Chair Alice Nixon, Dora Wilburn, Sharron Hines, Pooja Bindingnavele,Vice Chair Julie Rogers,Vickie C. Natale,Veronica Towns, Nicole Carroll,and Alice Hawkins C. Public Comment There was no public comment. D. Approval of Minutes and Action on Absences Approval of Minutes and Action on Absences: A motion to approve the September minutes was made by Vickie Natale and seconded by Nicole Carroll. The motion passed unanimously. Julie Rogers and Dora Wilburn asked that their absences from previous meetings be excused. Pooja Bindingnavele moved that the absences be excused. Nicole Carroll seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. 1. 22-1878 October 4 Regular Meeting Minutes Attachments: Meetinq Minutes October Library Board Final Minutes were approved. E. Friends Liaison Report 2. 22-1879 Friends of CCPL October 25th 2022 Report The Voices of South Texas event will be held Old Bayview Cemetery Saturday, November 5th from 10am to 2pm. The Friends of CCPL will have an informational table. City of Corpus Christi Page 1 Printed on 1211512022 Library Board Meeting Minutes -Final November 1,2022 The library will be placing historical photographs and biographical information at some of the gravesites, a QR code will direct individuals back to the library's Old Bayview Cemetery website. The AAUW used book sale will be held November 10-12. Thursday and Friday will be tax free. The next Friends meeting has been moved to November 15th due to the upcoming holiday and will be held at 12:00. F. Director's Report 3. 22-1880 Director's Report November 2022 The La Retama plumbing reroute project started on October 24th, it will take 3-4 months to complete the project. Currently only downstairs restrooms are available. The hotspots funded by the Emergency Connectivity Grant have been received and are being processed, distribution is scheduled for November 14th for the libraries and housing partners. Pooja Bindingnavele asked if students were eligible to check out hot spots, Alice Hawkins recommended reaching out to CCISD. Tiffany Bell, the Youth Services Librarian at Central, has been hired as Managing Librarian at Garcia Library. McDonald Library had over 400 attendees at their Halloween event, that same day the Monster Mash event at La Retama had 120, this was for individuals over 16 years old. The winter brochure is currently being drafted. The family of Daniel Whiting, who was encamped here in the 1840s prior to the start of the Mexican War, has appraised his sword and a cannon ball, which will be donated to the library. Roger Whiting has donated funds to the Friends for the purchase of an exhibit case. An exhibit of the Harbor Bridge has opened at La Retama. G. Unfinished Business The annual board report is due in January, City Council. H. New Business for Discussion and Possible Action 4. 22-1881 Election of New Board President Nicole Carroll nominated Julie Rogers, Alice Hawkins seconded, the motion passed unanimously. Dora Wilburn nominated Vickie Natale for the Vice-Chair position, Julie Rogers seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. 5. 22-1885 Discussion on Maximum Virtual Attendance During A Calendar Year There was a discussion on whether to set a limit on the number of times, during a calendar year, a board member could attend virtually. Pooja Bindingnavele asked if there were any existing rules regarding virtual attendance. Alice Nixon indicated that there are no rules, but virtual attendance does not count towards having a quorum, which is the City of Corpus Christi Page 2 Printed on 1211512022 Library Board Meeting Minutes -Final November 1,2022 concern since one meeting during the Summer lacked a quorum. It was decided that unless an emergency arose every effort to attend in person would be made. Also, that members would notify the Chair, Co-Chair and\or Director in advance if they would not be able to attend. I. Future Agenda Items Julie Rogers addressed beginning the preparation of the annual report, which will be due to the City Council in January. Vickie Natale agreed to assist with preparing the report, a draft will be emailed to members for feedback, input and editing as was done last year. J. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 11:25 am. This meeting may be held via videoconference call pursuant to Texas Government Code § 551.127. If this meeting is held via videoconference call or other remote method of meeting, then a member of this governmental body presiding over this meeting will be physically present at the location of this meeting unless this meeting is held pursuant to Texas Government Code § 551.125 due to an emergency or other public necessity pursuant to Texas Government Code § 551.045.
