HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Landmark Commission - 11/17/2022 MINUTES - REGULAR MEETING LANDMARK COMMISSION CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS - 4:30 pm 1201 LEOPARD STREET NOVEMBER 17, 2022 STAFF: Nina Nixon-Mendez, Assistant Director & Historic Preservation Officer Gina Trotter, Interim Agenda Coordinator Buck Brice, Assistant City Attorney I. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL The meeting was called to order and a quorum was established with Commissioners Brown and Williams absent. II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: September 22, 2022 A motion was made by Chairman Mendez to approve the minutes listed above and seconded by Commissioner Forrester. The motion passed. III. APPROVAL OF ABSENCES: Wade Williams A motion was made by Commissioner Brown to approve the absences listed above and was seconded by Commissioner Fontenot. The motion passed. IV. PUBLIC COMMENT – None. V. BRIEFING: 1. Historic Resource Survey follow up - Michael Alva from GIS, answered questions about the survey from the Commissioners. 2. Parks and Recreation Department report was presented by Nina Nixon-Mendez (handout) VI. Discussion and Consideration of a Resolution to include Old Bayview Cemetery for inclusion on the proposed Pedestrian / Bicycle Route as described in the Downtown Area Development Plan A motion was made by Vice Chairman Freeman to approve the resolution as presented by staff and was seconded by Chairman Mendez. The motion passed. VII. HISTORIC PRESERVATION OFFICER REPORT: Nina Nixon-Mendez Nina Nixon-Mendez, Assistant Director informed the Commissioners, that Commissioner Kathleen De La Garza has resigned from the Landmark Commission. Nina Nixon-Mendez informed the Commissioner’s about the Real Places Conference in February, Commissioner Pruitt and herself will be attending in person and Commissioner Wilson will be attending virtually. She told the Commissioners about the Historic Preservation Officer position, currently still open and taking applications, they have interviewed but are going to keep the position open until filled. COMMISSIONERS: Armando Mendez - Chairman Dr. Emma Nicole Freeman – Vice Chairman Madeleine Fontenot Kathleen de la Garza Wade Williams Matthew Forrester COMMISSIONERS: Roslyn Michelle Wanzer Veronica Wilson Dr. Jen Brown Dr. James Pruitt Albert Montez Coming up in January we are announcing the call for nominations for the Annual Historic Preservation Award, new categories include History Books and Education. Also, she has submitted a request for CLG Funds for the Historic Resource Survey, waiting to see what happens with this. She informed the Commissioners of an upcoming training on Mid Century housing hosted by the National Alliance of Preservation Commission on December 8th. Lastly, she announced this will be the last meeting for Vice Chairman Freeman and Commissioner Fontenot, she acknowledges their hard work and dedication with the Landmark Commission. VIII. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS : NONE IX. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 5:18 p.m.
