HUMAN RESOURCES BASEMENT TRAINING ROOM January 6, 2023, 1:00 p.m. Commission Members Present Dr. Beth Rauhaus, Chairperson Dr. Deborah Sibila, Member Gerald Avila, Member City Staff Present Eyvon McHaney Amelia Allen Tami Cleary Sherri Eldridge Rita Galvan Chairperson, Dr. Beth Rauhaus called the meeting to order at 1:06 P.M. Eyvon McHaney reads agenda item #1. Item #1:Review and consider the appeal submitted by Firefighter II: Travis May for question # 15 on the Fire Captain promotional examination administered on December 13, 2022. Amelia Allen reads the question being appealed, all possible answers for the question, and the recommendation action given by the test creator to deny appeal. No one present spoke for or against item #1. Eyvon McHaney reads agenda item #2. Item #2:Review and consider the appeal submitted by Firefighter II: Joseph Brunemeier for question # 25 on the Fire Captain promotional examination administered on December 13, 2022. Amelia Allen reads the question being appealed, all possible answers for the question, and the recommendation action given by the test creator to deny appeal. Joseph Brunemeier states that question does not reference exposure tactics, but focuses on streams used on the building. This made him ask himself, "What are we using the streams for?" Without the attack specification in the question, he did not know what the tactic is intended for. In the field, they use streams on the building, but master streams are used for attack. Had language regarding exterior building streams been included in the question, he would know the tactic would be used for exposure. Eyvon McHaney reads agenda item #3. Orlando Torres states that D contradicts the message of positivity. He also says source contradicts itself on page 193 "When people buy in with trust, they buy in whether it is good or bad, positive or not." Commission Member, Gerald Avila commented to those in attendance that although they denied the appeals, they had two items to discuss with Human Resources in terms of the writing format for future exams.
