MEETING MINUTES
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI
1201 LEOPARD STREET-CITY HALL CHAMBERS
JANUARY 12, 2023, 1:30 PM
I. CALL TO ORDER - ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order and a quorum was established.
II. DISCUSSION & ACTION REGARDING CHAIRMAN AND VICE CHAIRMAN ELECTIONS:
Chairman Camp opened nominations for Chairman.
Chairman Camp nominated Jared Merdes for Chairman. Board Member seconded.
Voice Vote: All Aye. The motion passed.
Chairman Merdes opened nominations for Vice Chairman.
Board Member Camp nominated Ronald Brister. Board Member seconded.
Chairman Merdes nominated Mike Wanzer. Board Member seconded.
Chairman Merdes called for a Roll Call Vote.
Mrs. Bocchino called Roll: R. Brister received 2 aye, 5 nay; Mike Wanzer received 5 aye, 2 nay. Mike
Wanzer was elected Vice Chair.
III. PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment.
IV. APPROVAL OF ABSENCES: Board Member Camp moved to approve the absence of Mr. Mendes. A
Board Member seconded. The motion passed.
V. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: November 17, 2022. After discussion, a motion was made by Chairman
Merdes to approve the minutes as amended; and was seconded by the board. The motion passed.
VI. BRIEFING:
1. Annual Report: Discussion to table the Annual Report to a Special Meeting via WEBEX
January 25, 2022, 11:00 am.
Board Members discussed the following goals for 2023: adopting the I Code; briefing on the STAR
Program; the Flood Zone Map criteria and how to assist citizens-this is a Federal FEMA situation.
Deputy Building Official Fry discussed how the board can assist the department with education and
awareness with contractors and customers primarily in the commercial field; via workshops to bring
awareness to the meeting during the DS Task Force, which is held once per month, the third Friday of
every month, 9:00 am in the 6th Floor Conference Room. Discussed projects and permits processed at
the same time; need a level of detail, not just general; and the need for something in writing for the
scope of work.
2. 901 Leopard, Nueces County Court House boiler; the State deemed it unsafe. Did the DSD
inspect and permit?
Board Members discussed the boiler at Nueces County; do not know the changes that were made there;
Mr. Fry, Deputy Building Official, stated there were many permits pulled by the County; no knowledge of
permits regarding the boiler; the County has a lot of projects recently; could have been substantial work
done that was not permitted; suggested to do an open records request for detail information.

3. Discussion and possible action regarding the CTAAB 2023 meeting calendar. A motion was made
and seconded by the Board to approve the calendar as amended.
VII. DEPUTY BUILDING OFFICIAL REPORT: Luke Fry, Deputy Building Official gave the following report:
• Presentation of the draft International Code Council 2021 Code Adoption, for City Council 1/24/23
First Reading, and Second Reading 1/31/23.
• Packet including International Property Maintenance Code (Code Enforcement uses this Code)
• Packet including the 2021 International Fire Proposed Code Amendments
• Contact Linda Stewart for Code Enforcement issues/International Property Maintenance Code.
• Updated the IRC Plumbing Code.
• Implementation to take effect August 1, 2023.
• Meeting with other cities to adopt code updates.
