Roll Call Present: Julie Rogers, Pooja Bindingnavele, Nicole Carroll, Alice Hawkins, Sharron Hines, Carroll Matthews, Dora Wilburn Present Virtually: Vickie Natale Absent: None C. Public Comment There was no public comment. D. Approval of Minutes and Action on Absences Approval of Minutes and Action on Absences: A motion to amend the March minutes to show the budget under the Friends of CCPL Liaison Report as $7,000 was made by Sharron Hines and seconded by Carroll Matthews. The motion passes unanimously. A motion to approve the March minutes as amended was made by Alice Hawkins and seconded by Pooja Bindingnavele. The motion passed unanimously. 1. 23-0609 March 7 Regular Meeting Minutes Attachments: March 7 Library Board Meeting Minutes Draft Minutes were approved as amended. -Alex Hatley, Managing Librarian of Janet F. Harte Public Library, introduced himself and City of Corpus Christi Page 1 Printed on 5/3/2023 Library Board Meeting Minutes -Final April 4,2023 gave a brief overview of his work experience with the library. He provided information on how the Harte Library and Flour Bluff High School Library work together. E. Friends of CCPL Liaison Report 2. 23-0610 Friends of CCPL Liaison Report -Sharron Hines reported that library staff is researching new software programs for the mobile planetarium, which was purchased over five years ago with a grant received from the Ed Rachal Foundation. She also mentioned that the cover of the mobile planetarium is being evaluated and may need minor repairs. The Corpus Christi Astronomical Society has indicated that they would like to partner with the library to assist during mobile planetarium outreaches. Alice Hawkins asked if volunteers would be welcomed to assist with outreaches and suggested students in NHS. F. Director's Report 3. 23-0611 Director's Report •FY23 Budget Initiative—the 50 computers that were purchased have been installed at the four branch locations: Neyland (3/11), Hopkins (3/18), Garcia and Harte (4/1). -Bond 2022, panel interviews will be conducted, in late April, with the Architectural firms who responded to the Professional Architectural Service Request for Qualifications (RFQ). -Resignation —Veronica Towns submitted her resignation, due to work related travel. -The FY24 Budget requests, to present to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), are being discussed with our ACM Nadia Chandler-Hardy. Requests under consideration: increase security guard service hours at the branches, Librarian positions and capital improvements at some branches. -New hours effective June 5: Garcia Library Monday thru Friday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. -April 19-22 the Texas Library Association Conference will be held in Austin, four staff members will be attending. -The Legal Access Kiosk, being provided by the Texas Legal Service Centers with funding from the Texas Access to Justice Foundation will be installed at La Retama in April. -The enhancement to integrate online payment capability with library accounts should be completed in the next few months. The goal is to implement the service this Summer. -The Annual State report to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission due April 30th will be submitted by April 20, with no Maintenance of Effort issues. -On Friday March 24th, during the Social Work Month Agency Fair at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Cecilia Arvizu, who is participating in our Library Social Work Intern pilot program, provided information to undergraduate and graduate social work students about her internship at La Retama Central. Her goal was to have students consider the library as an option for their Fall placement. Ms. Arvizu will provide an overview of her experience in our pilot program at the May 2 board meeting. G. Unfinished Business 4. 23®0430 National Library Week 2023 Proclamation Request for National Library Week 2023 Proclamation has been approved and will be presented on Tuesday, April 25th before the City Council meeting at 10:45 am.
