Roll Call Present: Julie Rogers, Vickie Natale, Pooja Bindingnavele, Nicole Carroll, Alice Hawkins, Sharron Hines, Carroll Matthews, Dora Wilburn Present Virtually: None Absent: None C. Public Comment There was no public comment. D. Approval of Minutes and Action on Absences A motion to approve the April minutes was made by Pooja Bindingnavele and seconded by Vickie Natalie. Director's Report 3. 23-0686 Director's Report City of Corpus Christi Page 1 Printed on 6/8/2023 Library Board Meeting Minutes -Final May 2,2023 -La Retama Social Work Pilot Program - presentation by Cecilia Arvizu on her internship experience during the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters. -FY23 Budget initiatives- Neyland Library improvements 30% design ready and La Retama generator 90% design ready. Bond 2022 La Retama Central Library renovation- Staff met with architects who submitted recommendations. We hope to know more by the end of summer. Summer Reading Programs start June 5th and run through July 29th. 394 programs are scheduled for children under the age of twelve as well as some programs for teens and adults. Appointment of a new board member is tentatively scheduled to go before Council on May 9th. Received notification from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission that we are on the recommended list to receive funding for the FY24 Special Projects grant application that we submitted. The Commission will review the Grant Review Panel recommendations at their June 2 meeting and will make the final determination. The grant if awarded will fund the creation of a community sensory room, for children from birth to 14, the request was for$75,000. -May is National Preservation Month we will have on display the Gateway to Corpus Christi: The Story of Harbor Bridge panel exhibit at La Retama through the month of May. -The Texas Legal Access Kiosk equipment was received and installed. Reservation software needs to be installed and staff trained, once this is completed, we will begin promoting the service. G. Unfinished Business None H. New Business for Discussion and Possible Action 4. 23-0762 Social Work Intern Presentation Cecilia Arvizu, who has been interning at the library while working on her master's degree in social work, shared her experience working at the library. She provided outreach to connect homeless patrons with services, assisted patrons with other life challenges, and assisted with computer literacy needs. She also provided patrons with resource guides to programs in the community as well as wellness and hygiene kits provided by her classmates and professor. She also provided the MHID crisis outreach number to a patron who needed shelter. She was also able to give referrals to patrons who needed help with housing assistance, insurance claims, school enrolment, affidavit to dismiss criminal charges, Texas rent relief program, and patrons who needed employment documents and applications.
