REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
AIRPORT ZONING COMMISSION
(PLANNING COMMISSION)
Wednesday, February 22, 2023 Council Chambers
I. CALL TO ORDER - ROLL CALL
Chairman Zarghouni called the meeting to order at 6:07 pm and a quorum was
established to conduct the meeting.
II. PUBLIC COMMENT: None.
III. APPROVAL OF ABSENCES: Commissioner Mandel; October 19, 2022
A motion was made by Commissioner York to approve the absence and seconded by
Commissioner Motaghi. The motion passed. The Vote: All Aye.
IV. APPROVAL OF AIRPORT ZONING COMMISSION (AZC) MINUTES:
October 19, 2022.
A motion was made by Commissioner Munoz to approve the minutes and seconded by
Commissioner Salazar-Garza. The motion passed. The Vote: All Aye.
V. BRIEFING: City of Corpus Christi International Airport Presentation.
Kevin Smith, Director of the International Airport gave a presentation to the
Commissioners about the latest revisions and updates at the Airport. The airport
consists of a 140,000 square feet building built in 2002; seven rental car stations; full US
Customs and Border Protection facility; processes 200 passengers per hour;
$782,000,000 operation with a total of 8,693 employees; just completed Vision 2026
Strategic Plan looking at the next three years including cost reduction and facility
improvement; reviewing a concession contract; an Amazon walk out; started a Fly Local
First Campaign; working on paying off debt and implementing charges (landing fees,
Uber, Lyft, etc.); parking is now in house, as opposed to contracting out.
Commissioners discussed building a What-a-Burger at the airport.
VI. DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Assistant Director Nina Nixon-Mendez stated we are working
with Kevin’s team in looking at the Airport Hazard Overlay District for the area and
should have a draft in the next couple of months.
VII. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: None.

There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 6:18 pm.
