Roll Call Present: Candace Hart, Pooja Bindingnavele, Alice Hawkins, Carroll Matthews, Vickie Natale, Dora Wilburn Present Virtually: Sony Peronel Absent: None C. Public Comment No Public Comment. D. Approval of Minutes and Action on Absences A motion to approve the October minutes was made by Alice Hawkins and seconded by Carroll Matthews. The motion passed unanimously. Vickie Natale and Carroll Matthews asked that their previous absences be excused. A motion that they be excused, was made by Alice Hawkins, and seconded by Dora Wilburn. Director's Report 2. 23-1779 Director's Report Friends Report: - By Library Director City of Corpus Christi Page 1 Printed on 1211212023 Library Board Meeting Minutes -Final November 7,2023 • The Friends of Corpus Christi Public Libraries held their annual meeting on October 24 and elected new officers. •According to Friends president, Sharron Hines resigned from the Friends board. Sharron was informed that she needed to notify the library to make her resignation from the Library Board formal. •A media advisory will be issued for the check presentation to the Friends, for the private donations they have received for the Sensory Room, dates and times are still be finalized. Director's Report: • Designs for renovations to La Retama Central Library are 30% complete. The bids for the Neyland renovations were received. • Library staff met with E-Rate Central staff to discuss applying for Category 2 fund, which would cover equipment. Under Category I we receive a 90% discount for Internet service. Category 2 would be 85% discount. Texas State Library is paying for libraries to receive assistance on filing for E-Rate, which can be a complicated process. • The Hotspot lending program is ending at the end of December. Staff is looking for funding to continue the program. Unfortunately, it took several months before the program gained traction, several positive comments have been received. • Laura met with CCISD staff, discussed students providing book reviews for our Spring brochure. Also, discussed CTE students designing the summer cover, and possibly expanding their Tech2Learn activities to repeat them during the summer at the local libraries. F. Unfinished Business 3. 23-1602 Upcoming Vacancy and Appointment Discussion Candidates for vacancies and reappointments go to City Council next week. We have a total of five vacancies with three reappointments. We are well represented in District Two with little representation in Districts One, Three, and Five. G. New Business for Discussion and Possible Action 4. 23-1780 ALA Library Bill of Rights and Freedom to Read Statement Copies of ALA Library Bill of Rights and Freedom to Read Statement were provided.
