Marina Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes -Final December 4,2023
Mr. Atwood advised A dock has been mostly demolished, the construction company
had to devise a new plan for removing the wooden piles, as they were snapping in
half at the water line. Dredge equipment will be in place within the next 2 weeks to
dredge the construction area to 9 '/2 feet. The spoil material will be deposited at
Rincon Point. The Coopers Alley boater's facility and haul out are at the 50% design
phase. Harrison's Landing has decided not to proceed with expanding their footprint
due to cost and the fact they will not own the structure. The Peoples St Boardwalk
project is waiting on the US Army Corps of Engineers permit to be issued, hopefully in
early spring, then proceed straight to construction. The Master Plan is 50%
completed, Mr. Atwood will meet with EDSA this week and stakeholder meetings will
take place the following week.
H. New Business for Discussion and Possible Action
4. 23®1948 Presentation from USCG ATON Unit
The District Head of Federal Projects in Federal waters, Joe Gonzales, and the
Officer in Charge at the USCG Aids to Navigation Unit, Zach Burgess answered MAC
questions regarding navigational aids in Corpus Christi Bay. The ATON unit services
450 navigational aids from Matagorda Bay to Aransas Bay. During projects like the
widening of the ship channel the unit moves the aids out of the construction zone,
then replaces them once the project is completed. Mr. Murray inquired if the ATON
unit oversaw installing navigation aids in Corpus Christi Bay from downtown to Texas
A& M University— Corpus Christi. Officer Burgess advised that is not a federal
waterway and a private entity would need to purchase, install, and maintain any aids
there. The more boaters that report malfunctioning navigation aids to the USCG
Command Center the quicker they can be fixed.
