Categories of past nominees: 2019-2022: Organization/Person, Building/Project. In 2023, we added Architect/Organizations, History Books, Education, and Buildings/Properties. History and Education were added to educate the community on historical preservation in the city. It could be a blog, a pod cast, Instagram, or anything of that nature. Mr. Kurtz suggested Jillian Becquet, who has written history for The Bend magazine and was a curator at the History and Science Museum. Commissioner Landreth mentioned two architects, Jim Rome and Richard Colley who both have significant projects in Corpus Christi. Commissioner Pruitt stated he didn't think we have ever had an architect. Commissioner Wilson asked about organizations; Main Street received one. Buildings have to be 50 years or older to be recognized. Organizations need to be affiliated with a building, location, and preservation involvement. Commissioner Landreth mentioned the cotton pressers behind Whataburger field. Mr. Kurtz asked for ideas to be emailed to him for discussion at the next meeting. Mr. Kurtz talked about the Art Contest. Since the Art Museum is sponsoring its own painting contest in May, grades 1-12, we can eliminate grades 1-12 for the LMC contest. Mr. Kurtz talked about choosing 30 photos from the McGregor files and asking for paintings of citizens' perception or interpretation of the original photo. Displaying entries at the airport was suggested. The website would need to be updated if the LMC change the parameters of the contest. Tentative judges for the contest were discussed. Judges would be from the outside. Advertising will be initiated. Mr. Kurtz discussed Preservation Month activities. It is too early to make definite plans. Organizations are discussing their options.
