HomeMy WebLinkAbout033462 ORD - 09/10/2024 Ordinance authorizing the acceptance of a grant from the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority Catalytic Converter Grant in the amount of $98,728.00 for overtime for four sworn officers and two civilians, and for equipment and supplies for the Corpus Christi Police Department's Auto Theft Task Force; and designating several City staff members as designated officials for the grant; and appropriating $98,728.00 in the Police Grants Fund. WHEREAS, under the provisions of the Texas Transportation Code Chapter 1006 and Texas Administrative Code Title 43; Part 3; Chapter 57, entities are eligible to receive grants from the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority to provide financial support to law enforcement agencies for economic automobile theft enforcement teams and to combat motor vehicle burglary in the jurisdiction; and WHEREAS, this grant program will assist this jurisdiction to combat motor vehicle burglary and theft; and WHEREAS, City of Corpus Christi has agreed that in the event of loss or misuse of the grant funds, City of Corpus Christi assures that the grant funds will be returned in full to the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the Chief of Police is allowed to execute all documents necessary to accept a grant from the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVCPA) Catalytic Converter Grant in the amount of $98,728.00 to continue the Auto Theft Task Force unit activities within the Police Department, to fund overtime for four sworn officers and two civilians, and for equipment and supplies for the Corpus Christi Police Department's Auto Theft Task Force. SECTION 2. That $98,728.00 from the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority is appropriated in the Police Grant Fund account to fund four sworn officers and two civilians, and for equipment and supplies necessary to continue the motor vehicle theft enforcement grant within the Police Department. SECTION 3. That the Chief of Police is designated as the Authorized Official to apply for, accept, decline, modify, or cancel the grant application for the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority Catalytic Converter grant program, and all other necessary documents to accept said grant. SECTION 4. That the Deputy Chief of Police of the Criminal Investigations Division is designated as the Program Director, and the Director of Finance or the Director of Finance's designee is designated as the Financial Officer for this grant. SECTION 5. That in the event of loss or misuse of the grant funds, the City of Corpus Christi assures that the grant funds will be returned in full to the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority. 033462 SCANNED Introduced and voted on the A day of , 2024.
