COLLECTOR OF TAXES TO ALLOW INTEREST UPON
ADVANCE PAYMENTS OF AD VALOREM TAXES FOR
THE YEAR 1937, FIXING THE RATE OF INTEREST
TO BE APPLIED AND THE PERIOD DURING WWHICH
SUCH ALLOWANCES MAY BE MADE; DEFINING THE
AMOUNT OF ADVANCE PAYMENTS UPON WHICH SAID
ALLOWANCES MAY BE APPLIED; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY", BY AI:IENDING THE THIRD PARAGRAPH
THEREOF AND SECTION TWO THEREOF; AND DECLAR-
ING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1: That Paragraph Three of Resolution Number 770, entitled "A
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ASSESSOR AND COLLECTOR OF TAXES TO ALLOW! INTEREST UPON ADVANCE
PAYMENTS OF AD VALOREM TAXES FOR THE YEAR 1937, FIXING THE RATE OF INTEREST TO BE APPLIED
AND THE PERIOD DURING WHICH SUCH ALLOWANCES MAY BE MADE; DEFINING THE AMOUNT OF ADVANCE
PAYMENTS UPON WHICH SAID ALLOWANCES MAY BE APPLIED; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY", adopted
by the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi on the 30th day of September, 1937 and
recorded in Volume 9, Page 607 of the Ordinance and Resolution Records of the City of Corpus
Christi, be amended so as to hereafter read as follows:
"WHEREAS, it is deemed necessary that the sum of Three Hundred Thousand
($300,000.00) Dollars be collected and applied to the payment of current operating
expenses at an early date; and in order that this amount may be made available for
current operating expenses, it will be necessary to collect approximately Three Hundred
Thousand ($300,000.00) Dollars in ad valorem taxes due for the year 1937;"
SECTION 2: That said Resolution be further amended so that Section Two of
said Resolution shall hereafter read as follows:
"Section 2: The amount of money sought to be raised by this means, and
upon which said allowances may be applied, shall be limited to Three Hundred Thousand
($300,000.00) Dollars, and the Assessor and Collector shall immediately notify the I.(ayor
and City Council upon receipt of said amount, and shall not remit discount or allow in-
terest upon any advance payments of taxes received after said amount has been collected."
SECTION 3: The public importance of this Resolution creates a public
emergency and an imperative public necessity exists for the suspension of the Charter Rule
providing that no Ordinance or Resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is intro-
duced, unless declared to be a public emergency Ordinance by the Mayor, and the Mayor having
in writing declared that such public emergency and imperative public necessity exists and
requested that said Charter Rule be suspended, and this Resolution finally be passed on
the date it is introduced, and take effect from and after its passage and approval on
the date of its introduction, IT IS SO ORDAINED.
