to provide lifeguard services to Nueces County at Nueces County
Padre Balli Park from May 25 - September 7, 2026, for an estimated
total cost of $70,628.00, with Nueces County reimbursing the City for
those services.
WHEREAS, historically, City of Corpus Christi and Nueces County have entered
into Interlocal Agreements to provide lifeguard services at Padre Balli Park,
between Access Road 5 and Access Road 6;
WHEREAS, City of Corpus Christi (City) provided lifeguard services until 2022,
when Bob Hall Pier was demolished due to extensive damage caused by
Hurricane Hannah and Interlocal Agreements for lifeguard services were
suspended as construction was initiated to replace Bob Hall Pier;
WHEREAS, this stretch of beach is known to be one of the most dangerous areas
for rip currents and drownings within our Gulf Beaches; and
WHEREAS, with the completion of Bob Hall Pier construction in February 2026,
Nueces County would like to commence with City -employed lifeguards to provide
Gulf Beach lifeguard services for Summer 2026.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
The City Manager or designee is authorized to execute an Interlocal Agreement
with Nueces County to provide lifeguard services to Nueces County at Nueces
County Padre Balli Park, between Access Road 5 and Access Road 6, from May
25 - September 7, 2026, for an estimated total cost of $70,628.00. Nueces County
will reimburse the City of Corpus Christi (City) for the costs of those services.
