Amendment to Extend Contract of Friends of the CCMSH

My name is Peter Moore, and I am a Professor of History at Texas A&M University-Corpus
Chr isti. I am writing in support of the amendment extending the contract of the Friends of
the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History for five years. In my professional
capacity, I have enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with the Museum . Ove r the past
fifteen yea rs, I have collaborated with the Museum as it hired our graduates , supervised
volunteers and interns from our undergraduate and graduate programs , and hosted
visits/field trips from two of my upper division history classes . Seeing my students' eyes
light up when Dillon Beal led us into the storage room , which holds thousands of awe-
insp i ring historical objects, made these class visits especially memorable. CCMSH has
also made its archives available to me for research . Its records relating to its Indigenous
collections and the fascinating papers of two local archaeologica l pioneers , Harold Pape
and John Tunnell, were particularly helpful to understanding the archaeological history of
the Coastal Bend. The Museum also hosts public lectures/conversations on regional
history and science. I have both given and attended these talks. Corpus Christi is fortunate
to have a non-academic venue for sharing such specialized know l edge to the general
public.
Ove r the past few months I have had the privilege of participating i n the Museum 's master
planning process . It is encouraging to see Karen Stevenson and her staff solic iting input
from community stakeholders and listening to our concerns and ideas as they formulate a
vis i on for t he future. Much of our city's story remains to be told. Let me repeat that,
speaking as a professional historian who is invested in local history: m.u..c.b. of our city 's
story rema i ns to be told . Being part of the master planning process has convi nced me that
the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History is prepared to tell this sto ry in new and
exc iting ways that will engage the public and make the Museum significant to the city 's
identity and growth for many years to come .

Service Agreement for Management between the City of
Corpus Christi and Friends of the Corpus Christi Museum of
Science and History,
26-0465
The Executive Director and Board of Directors of the Friends of the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and
History have made great strides improving the museum and making plans for the future.
The CCMSH was the first accredited museum in Texas, but that accreditation had lapsed. The current
Executive Director realized that lack of credential and knew how to get the accreditation restored.
The plans for upgrading the permanent exhibits and bringing traveling exhibits are exciting.
The forward thinking and insights to make the CCMSH a treasure trove and gem for the city are admirable.
These kinds of activities can only happen with a stable and long-term agreement with the city.

HR Audit vs Similar HR/Background Check Audits in TX
26-1749
Comment
I located 8 audit reports released within last few years in TX that covered background investigations
and/or efficiency and effectiveness of HR talent acquisition AND guidance from the Texas State Auditor's
Office. 3 key things stood out:
1) The challenges & opportunities Corpus Christi HR has is very similar to those in other cities to include
Austin & Dallas.
2) Criminal penalties for unauthorized sharing or use of criminal history information ranges from class B
misdemeanor to 2nd degree felony in TX. None of the other audits, attempted to review actual
background data - redacted or not.
3) IIA & GAGS Auditing Standards both require auditors to be objective, to exercise due professional care
& confidentiality. The tone of the report appears very biased when compared to similar reports issued in
Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Fort Worth Media stories - Witch hunt", "hit job," "Fire Zanoni" do not reflect
an objective, non -biased attitude. I will email links
