Motion approving the following recommendation of the Regional Water Supply
Task Force: A) direct the Regional Water Supply Task Force and City staff to
closely monitor the progress of the proposed Tampa Bay desalination project and
report to the Council quarterly; and directing staff to bring implementation of the
following recommendations of the Task Force back to the City Council later for
discussion as we move through the permitting process on Garwood: B) provide
sufficient funding to secure professional services in evaluating the information
obtained from the proposed Tampa Bay desalination project with respect to
identifying any significant differences in the water supply issues and the application
of desalination in the Tampa Bay area versus the Corpus Christi area; and C)
initiate regional studies of the hydrogeology of the Gulf Coast Aquifer in the Corpus
Christi area, especially with respect to the availability of brackish ground water as
a feedstock for less expensive desalination processes.
