CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS
SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING
September 2g, 1967
9:00 P.M.
PRESENT:
Mayor Jack R. Blackmon
Mayor Pro Tem Ronnie Sizemore
Commissioners:

City Secretary T. Ray Kring
Mayor Jack R. Blackmon called the meeting to order and stated the
purpose of the meeting to canvass returns of the Special Election re a one
percent Sales Tax, and for transacting any other business as may properly
come before the Council.
City Secretary T. Ray Kring called the roll of those in attendance.
City Manager Whitney presented for the Council's consideration the
following ordinance:
ORDINANCE NO. 8618
CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF AN r.FCTION HELD IN THE CITY CF
COP.PUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, ON SEPTEMBER 28, 1967, FOR THE PURPOSE OF DETERMINING
WHETHER OR NOT TO ADOPT A ONE PERCENT (1%) LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX WITHIN THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
The Charter rule was suspended and the foregoing ordinance was passed
by the following vote: Blackmon, Sizemore, Bradley, Jimenez, Lozano, McDaniel,
and Roberts, present and voting "Aye."
City Manager Whitney presented the following ordinance:
ORDINANCE N0. 8619
PROHIBITING THE ISSUANCE OF BUILDING PERMITS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION, RECONSTRUC-
TION, REPAIR, ALTERATION, OR REMODELING OF STRUCTURES LOCATED NORTH OF TEE
CORPUS CHRISTI SHIP CHANNEL, WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF CORPUS C_`_RISTI,
MVO= KNOWN AS THE "CORPUS CHRISTI BEACH AREA"; PROVIDING FOR AN APPROXIMATE
DURATION OF THE EFFECT OF THIS ORDINANCE; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONrLICT
HEREWITH; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
The Charter rule was suspended and the foregoing ordinance was passed
by the following vote: Blackmon, Sizemore, Bradley, Jimenez, Lozano, McDaniel
and Roberts, present and voting "Aye."
In connection with the foregoing ordinance, the Mayor, with Council
concurrence, directed that a temporary office be opened immediately on Corpus
Christi Beach to advise with property owners regarding the implications of the

ordinance and to otherwise assist the owners with our mutual problems of re-
habilitation of the area.
Mayor Blackmon complimented the Staff upon the handling of today's
election, enabling the Council to canvass the returns and dispatch the results
to the Comptroller's Office in Austin, Texas, within the time limitation with
reference to the effective date of sales tax authorized by the electorate.
There being no further business to come before the Council, the Special
meeting was adjourned.

foregoing minutes, same being for the period of September 6, 1967 through September 28,
1967, inclusive, and having been previously approved by Council action, are by me hereby
