Whitworth, Director P.O. Box 9277, Corpus Christi, Texas 78469 Ib'q¢arcd l~v: SHINER. MOSELEY AND ASSOCIAI ES, INC. J200 20280.03 January 2003 The attached renderings and illustrations are conceptual plans for Streetscape enhancements in Part A -North Reach of the Seawall Reconstruction Project, Pilot Program & Contract B-I. This phase of the seawall project begins at the south end of the barge dock and runs along the seawall a distance of approximately 1,500 feet to the storm water outfall structure aud fishing pier located just south of Power Street. Pertinent background information regarding the new artwork includes the following: · The renderings and illustrations have been reviewed and accepted by the Arts and Cultural Commission, chaired by Mr. Chuck Anastos, A1A. · Fabrication and installation of the structures will be by the current seawall contractor. Exhibit No. I shows three (3) proposed locations for the new structures. Each Iocation is in close proximity to accessible parking and/or RTA bus turnouts. · Provisions were made fbr the new structures in the original bid package of City Project No. 3169 (Seawall Reconstruction Project Pilot Program & Contract B-l) through a $242.000 "artwork" allm~ance. The actual number of structures constructed will depend on the negotiated price between the current seawall contractor and the City of Corpus Christi. · It is anticipated that up to three structures can be built within the budgeted allowance of $242,000. However, in the event that only two can be constructed, proposed locations 2a and 2b must bc prioritized based on the City's preference. It is recommended that 2a be first priority because it will allow symmetric placemenl of the structures along the seawall in future phases. · Upon approval of the Council, the final design (foundations, structures, lighting, etc.) can be completed and negotiations can start. Details of the construction of the shade structures include the following: · Exhibits show three (3) shade structures to be located within the first 1,500 feet of the seawall. · Shade structures will be constructed of Type 316 stainless steel tubular members with stainless steel perforated grating to provide shade. The specifications will specifically exclude mechanical brushing with tools that could cause surface corrosion. · Low intensity lighting will be installed at the tops of each structure to present a ~glowing" effect. · Area lighting along the seawall will provide safety lighting and will be more intense than the low intensity lighting. · Landscaping will consist of plants and vegetation that are resistant to drought. However, there will be provisions for irrigation. · Decorations/artwork on top of the concrete will be constructed by sandblasting or by exposed aggregate concrete. 0 U
