The Meeting was reopened after the closed session and it was announced to the press
that the closed meeting was on an emergency matter to simply determine the best and most
effective way to get qualified electricians in sufficient numbers into our City immediately
to take care of getting power restored.
Mayor Blackmon stated to the press he realized that they, like all of us, have a
curiosity about what k going on and that we are just trying to resolve problems and misunder-
standings; that we are getting with the representatives of electrical contractors and representatives
of local electricians union so as to avoid any misunderstandings.
It was stated that there would be not only a problem of getting electricians for necessary
fork, but also of getting men in other crafts.
A report was made in regard to building material prices going up - prices of shingles are
about double the usual price.
Councilman Sizemore suggested we should get the news out somewhere for carpenters,
roofers, etc. Also he questioned the possibility that if we do advertise for people to work,
would there be a problem of having some place for them to stay. City Manager Townsend stated
we could check with the housing people.
It was stated that the City will inspect the work done, but licenses would not be required.
Mayor Blackmon expressed appreciation to the press and radio news media for their
understanding and patience, and recessed the meeting until 1:30 p.m.
