PRESENT: Mayor Jason Luby Mayor Pro Tem James T. Acuff Commissioners: Rev. Harold T. Branch Thomas V. Gonzales Ricardo Gonzalez Gabe Lozano, Sr. J. Howard Stark City Manager R. Marvin Townsend City Attorney James R. Riggs City Secretary T. Ray Kring /4( Mayor Jason Luby called the meeting to order in the Council Chamber of the City Hall and stated the purpose of the special meeting was to welcome and pay special honour to our Tampico, Mexico, Sister City representatives presently visiting this City. The Invocation was given by Dr. W. H. Colson, Superintendent of Missions of Souther Baptist in Corpus Christi, and active member of the Corpus Christi Sister City Committee. City Secretary T. Ray Kring called the roll of those in attendance. Mayor Luby read a proclamation proclaiming November 11 through 13, 1973 as TAMPICO DAYS in the City. Commissioner Lozano presented the delegation with a symbolic Key to the City, and presented each delegate with an Honorary Citizenship Certificate. Mayor Luby addressed the group in their native language, welcoming them to this City, and on behalf of the City Council, extended cordial greetings. Mayor Fernando San Pedro spoke words of appreciation on being a visitor in this City, thanked the Council for the courtesies extended, and expressed hopes of continued friendship between the two countries. He presented Mayor Luby and Mr. Eduardo de Ases, Chairman of the Sister City Committee with ashtrays in the shape of the crab, Tampico's symbol; also presented Mayor Luby with a plaque, and each member of the Council and staff with symbolic pins. In addition to Mayor San Pedro, members of the delegation were: Fidel A. Carbajo, City Councilman; Hector C. Constantine, First Commandant of Police; Eduardo G. Cantu, President of the Tampico Chamber of Commerce; Heriberto R. Florencia, Juan Guzmam and Juan Araujo, all of the Chamber of Commerce; and Pablo Ferros, City Tax Collector. Following the formal ceremonies and exchange of greetings and mementos, the Tampico group were guests of the Navigation District for a boat ride in the Bay. Minutes Special Countil Meeting November 12, 1973 Page 2 After returning to the T -Head the delegation will be escorted to the Naval Air Station for a tour of the Naval facilities and a tour of the Police Station. Following the tour of the Naval Air Station, the group will be escorted back to the City Hall where they will attend a Sister City Committee meeting, then will be entertained by cocktails and reception at the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach by members of the Sister City Committee. Immediately following the arrival of the delegation in the City Sunday November 11, the guests were taken to the Coronado Room for a reception and press conference which was attended by some 80 people; at 4:30 p.m. they were escorted to the Circulo Social Mexican where they were received by members and friends and a light buffet served; and at 7:30 were joned by a crowd of some 75 people for cocktails and dinner at the Red Carpet Inn. There being no further business to come before the Council, motion by Lozano, seconded by Acuff and passed, that the meeting be adjourned at 10:15 a.m., November 12, 1973.
