HomeMy WebLinkAbout01682 ORD - 05/23/1944This /mw/5/23/44 Al ORDINANCE CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF AN ELECTION ON THE QUESTION OF THE ISSUANCE OF TEE FOLLONING BONDS* $275.000 GAS DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM BONDS FOR THE PURPOSE OF EXTENDING, IMPROV- ING AHD REHABILITATING THE GAS DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI* AND $125,000 FIRE DEPARTMENT BONDS FOR THE PURPOSE OF PURCHASING SITES AND BUILDING FIRE STATIONS AND ACQUIRING FOR TBE CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT FIRE APPARATUS, EQUIP- MENT, VEHICLES AND .ACCESSORIES; ALL OF SAID BONDS TO BE TAX SUPPORTED; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. 22ERRAS, heretofore on the 25th day of April, 1944, the City Council of the City of Carpus Christi passed an Ordinance calling an election to be held in said City on the 20th day of May, 19144, on the following propositions* PROPOSITION NO. 1 "Shall the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi be authorized to issue the bonds of the City of Corpus Christi in the sum of $275,000, mat- uring aerially in suoh installments as may be fixed by the City Council, the maximum maturity being not more than twenty -five (25) years from their date and bearing interest at the maximum rate of not to exceed three per cent (3 %) per annum, payable semi - annually and to levy a tax sufficient to pay the annual interest and provide a sinking fund to pay the bonds at maturity, for the purpose of extending, improving and rehabilita- ting the gas dietribution system, as authorized by the Constitution and the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter of the City of Corpus Christi, Texaa2" PROPOSITION N0. 2 "Shall the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi be authorized to issue the bonds of said City in the sum of $125,000 maturing serially in such installments as may be fixed by the City Council, the maximum maturity being not more than twenty -five (25) years from their date and bearing interest at the maximum rate of not to exceed three 3%) per cent per annum, payable semi - annually and to levy a tax sufficient to pay the annual interest and provide a siexsrg Hind to pay the bond*, at maturity and% p ro vi de a s inlan$- fpnd, to.psy the bon . -at meturit y %For tfie purpose of purchasing sites and building etitions and acquiring for the City Fire Department fire apparatus, equip. went, vehicles and accessories?" That the proposition for the issuance of $275,000 bonds for the extenaion,improvement and rehabilitation of the gas distribution system, and the levy of a tax for payment thereof, was sustained by a majority of the resident qualified electors who own tax- able property in said City and who have duly rendered the save for tax- ation voting at said election, and the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, hereby is authorised to issue said bonds in accordance with said proposition. 2. That the proposition for the issuance of $125.000 Fire Department Bonds for the purpose of purchasing sites and building stations and acquiring for the City Fire Department fire apparatus, equipment, ve- hicles and accessories, was sustained by a majority of the resident qualified electors who own taxable property in said City and who have duly rendered the same for taxation voting at said election, and the City .Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, is hereby authorized to issue said bonds in accordance with said proposition. 3. The fact that the improvements contemplated by reason of the bonds authorized in such election are essential to the protection of the property and health of the inhabitants of the City of Corpus Christi and that there ie an urgent weed for immediate protection of the property, and the fact that the improvements to be derived from the sale of the bonds authorised in such election are necessary for the orderly development are neoeeaary for the orderly development and growth of the City of Corpus Christi. create a public emergency and an imperative Pali* necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter Rule providing that no Ordinance or Resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced and that such Ordinance or Resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Couwoil, and the Mayor having deolared that auoh public emergency and imperative nec- essity exist and having requested that said Charter Rule be suspended, IT I8 SO CRUISED, AND IT IS ORDAINED THAT THIS ORDINANCE HE IR FOII, FORCE AND EFFECT FROM AND AFTER THIS DATE, THE DATE OF ITS ADOPTION.
