AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED 'AN ORDINANCE
PROVIDING RULES AED REGULATIONS CONCERNING
THE OPERATION OF BOATS CN LAWS CORPUS CHRISTI;
PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY,' BEING ORDINANCE
NaHBER 985, RECORDED IN VOLUME 10, PAGE 466,
OF THE ORDINANCE AND RESOLUTION RECORDS OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, BY ADDING SECTION
(f) TO SUB - SECTICN (1) OF SECTION 1 OF SAID ORDI-
NANCE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXASs
SECTION 1. That Ordinance Number 985, recorded in
Volume 10, page 466 of the Ordinance and Resolution Records of
the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, and entitled&
'AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING RULES AND REGULA-
TICNS CONCERNING THE OPERATION OF EMS ON
LAKE CORPUS CHRISTI; PROVIDING PENALTIES
FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF; AND DECLARING
AN EMERGENCY,'
be, and the acme is, hereby amended by adding to Sub- section (1)
of Section 1 of said ordinance the following paragraphs
w(f) The provisions of this ordinance shall not
be construed to prohibit the maintaining of a raft, barge,
or floating platform for esimming and diving purposea, pro-
vided the same be anchored securely to permanent anchors
or posts and be not more than two hundred (200) feet from
the shoreline, and there be kept thereon at least two (2)
life preserving devices, each sufficient to sustain a person
afloat; and provided further that any much raft, barge, or
floating platform shall have the vertical surfacee,therecf
painted with alternate diagonal white and black stripes,
and that all vertical surfaces be equipped with reflectors,
sufficient to indicate to watercraft the existence of
such barge, raft, or floating platform .2

SECTION 2. The Pact that the present ordinance
does not contain a provision permitting the placing of a swimming
or diving platform in the waters of lake Corpus Christi and that
the placing of such a platform or platforms would add to the use
and enjoyment of the waters of said lake for swimming, purposes,
and that the season for the use of such equipment is now at
hand, creates a public emergency and an imperative public
necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule providing
that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the
date it is introduced, and that said ordinance or resolution shall
be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the
Mayor, having declexed that such emergency and imperative public
necessity exist, and requested that said Chester rule be eus-
paraded, and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date it
is introduced, and take effect and be in fall force and effect
from and after its passage, IT IS, ACCORDINGLY, 80 ORDAIM.

For the reasons set forth in the emergenoy clause
of the foregoing ordinance, a public emergency and a public
Imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the Charter
rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be
passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such
ordinance or resolution shell be read at three several meetings
of the City Councils I, therefore, hereby request that you
suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance
finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting
of the City Council.
