AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, ADOPTED ON THE
27TH DAY OF AUGUST, 1937, AND APPEARING OF
RECORD IN-VOLUME 9, PAGE 565, OF THE
ORDINANCE AND RESOLUTION RECORDS OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI. AND AS THEREAFTER
AMENDED FROM TIME TO TIME, AND IN PARTICU-
LAR AS AMENDED BY ORDINANCE N0. 1425, PASSED
AND APM07ED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF TBE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI ON MARCH 5, 19LO, BY AMEND-
ING SUBSECTION 2 OF SECTION 34 OF SAID ORDI-
NANCE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT CRDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TE.YAS:
SECTION 1, That the Zoning Ordinance of the City of
Corpus Christi, Texas, adopted on the 27th day of August, 1937, and
appearing of record in Volume 9. Page 565, of the Ordinance and Resolution
Records of the City of Corpus Christi, and as thereafter emended from time
to time, and in particular as amended by Ordinance No. 1425, passed and
approved by the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi on March 5. 1942,
be amended by amending subsection 2 of Section 34 of said Ordinance, so that
subsection 2 of Section 34 of said Ordinance shall read hereafter as followsr
"SECTION 34- Subsection 2 - - -
(2) A Non-conforming Use other than the following: _
a. Signs as defined in Section 1, Subdivision 33.
b. Automobile Wreaking Yard.
c. Scrap Iron or Junk Storage. .
d. Trailer Camp, located in a Dwelling, Apartment, Retail
or Business District.
May be continued subject to such regulations as to the
maintenance of premises and the conditions of operation as may in the judg-
m at of the Board of Adjustment ba vutoaably - required for the protection of
adjacent property. All of the excepted uses above named which are not in strict
conformity with tkaterms or this Ordinance are hereby prohibited and such uses
now in existence in the City of Corpus Christi violating the provisions hereof
shall be altered, replaced or removed to conform with the provisions of this
Ordinance on or before the dates shown in the following schedules For Signs -
August 1, 1943; For Automobile Wrecking Yard, February 1, 194.6; For Scrap
Iron or Junk Storage - February 1, 1946; and for Trailer Camps - February 1,
1946."

SECTION 2. The fact that conditions caused by the war
now in progress between the United States and the Axis powers has created
a shortage of housing facilities and automobile parts, and the further
fact that the present wording of Subsection 2 of said Section 34 has
created much doubt and confusion in the minds of the persons concerned, and
the enforcemeut officers of the City of Corpus Christi, in regard to such
non - conforming uses, creates a public emergency and imperative public
necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement
that no Ordinance or Resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is
introduced, and that such ordinance or Resolution shall be read at three
several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared in
writing that such public emergency and imperative necessity exist, and
having requested that such Charter rule be suspended, and that this
Ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction, and take
effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS,
ACCCRDINGLY, SO ORDAINED, h

Gentlemen:
For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of
the foregoing Ordinance, a public emergency and an imperative
necessity exist for the suspension of the Charter rule or re-
quirement that no Ordinance or Resolution shall be passed Finally
on the date it is introduced, and that such Ordinance or Reso-
lution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Councils
I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter rule
or requirement and pass this Ordinance finally on the date it.is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
