HomeMy WebLinkAbout01846 ORD - 09/18/1945t� A R E S O L U T I ON V REQUESTING DISCHARGE OF ATLEE MARION CUNNINGHAM FROM MILITARY SERVICE IN ORDER FOR HIM TO ASSMM DUTIES OF CHIEF CHEMIST AND SUPERINTENDENT OF FILTRATION PLANT FOR THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI# AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, prior to his entry into the armed forces of the United States, Atlee Marion Cunningham, M M 3/a 967- 77 -21, whose address is now "U.S.S. Odum, APO 71, o% Fleet Poet Office, San Francisco, California,," was employed as chemist in the filtration plant for the City of Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, the City is greatly in need of Mr. Cunaingbam•s services at the present time and is unable to find say one with his qualifications to perform the duties formerly performed by him; and iTEEREAS, it is the intention of the City of Corpus Christi, if Mr• Cunningham is released from military duty, to employ him as Chief Chemist and Superintendent of the Filtration Plant for the City at a salary of $275.00 per months NOW, THEREREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texaes That the City Council respectfully request the discharge of Mr. Cunningham from the military service in order that he may accept the position aforesaid and that a copy of this Resolution be sent to the proper military authority. The necessity of promptly procuring the services of a competent and experienced person for the position of Chemist and Superintendent of the Filtration Plant in order to adequately safeguard the purity of the drinking water of the citizens of Corpus Christi creates a public emergency and a public imperative necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule Fr'oviding that no Ordinance or Resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such Ordinance or Resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having deolared that such public emergency and imperative necessity exist, and having requested that said Charter rule be suspended and that this Resolution be finally passed on the date it is introduced, and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS, ACCORDINGLY, RESOLVED. *L* �� PASSED AND APPROVED this 18th da ember, 1945• r, City of Corpus Ch sti, Texas AT = Cit ®r, ta APPROVED AS TO GAL FORM: ity Attorney The Charter Rule was suspended by the following vote: Roy L. B.Marriott Corpus Christi, Texas / 19+5 TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI Corpus Christi, Texas Gentlemen.- For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing Ordinance, a public emergency and an imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no Ordinanoe or Resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such Ordinance or Resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass thisRhsolutj= finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
