APPROVING THE ASSIGNLMNT OF THE GROUND LEASE
MADE BY THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TO MASTON
NIXON, LON C. HILL, MARK A. WELSH, MEREDITH
4UEEN, HERBERT S. LOWREY, GEORGE" H. JONES,
LESLIE - NOLFORD, JOHN W. SUTTON AND N. D. RHODES,
TRUSTEES OF THE AIMRICAN LEGION PLAMMIT
CENTER, SAID LEASE BEING ASSIGNED TO CORPUS
CHRISTI JUNIOR COLLEGE DISTRICT AND DECLARING
AN EMERGUTCY.
MIEREAS, on April 4, 1945, the City of Corpus Christi,
Texas, a municipal corporation, made a five (5) year lease to Maston
Nixon, Lon C. Hill, Mark A. Welsh, Meredith Queen, Herbert S. Lowrey,
George H. Jones, Leslie Rolford, John W. Sutton and N. D. Rhodes,
TRUSTEES of THE A7- RIC.1N LEGION PLACEYENT CENTER, said lease covering
certain land upon which the present American Legion Placement Center
is located; and
WHEREAS, Maston Nixon, Lon C. Hill, Mark A. Welsh, Meredith
queen, Herbert S. Lowrey, George 1-I. Jones, Leslie Wolford, John W.
Sutton and N. D. Rhodes, TRUSTEES for the A&LWRICAN LEGION PLACE1,1ENT
CENTER, did on the 28th day of February, 1947, assign said lease to
Corpus Christi Junior College, subject to the approval of the City
Council of Corpus Christi, Texas,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CrFHI:TI, TEXAS;
SECTION 1. That said assignment of ground lease from Maston
Nixon, Lon C. Hill, Itgark A. Ilelsh, Meredith Queen, Herbert S. Lowrey,
George H. Jones, Leslie r'iolford, John fl. Sutton and N. D. Rhodes,
TRUSTEES of THE MIMICAN LEGION PLACEMMIT CENTER, to Corpus Christi
Junior College District is hereby approved; however, the said Corpus
Christi Junior College District is to have said lease subject to all
terms and conditions set out in the original lease.
SECTION 2. The public importance of allowing Corpus Christi
Junior College District to operate said leased premises for school
purposes creates a public emergency and public imperative necessity
requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no Ordinanca or
Resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced and
that such Ordinance or Resolution shall be read at three several
meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such
public emergency and imperative necessity exist, and having requested
that such Charter rule be suspended, and that this Ordinance be passed
finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in
full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY
SO ORDAINED.

Gentlemen;
For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the
foregoing ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity
exist for the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no
ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is
introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at
three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that
you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance
finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of
the City Council.

American Legion Posts, and Lessees in the ground lease herei4 assigned,
for and in consideration of the sum of One Dollar (x'1.00) and other
valuable considerations to them in hand paid by the CORPUS MMISTI JT11OR
^,OLLI ?AI: DEI TRICT, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, subject to
the .mitten approval of the Lessor, CT.TY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, do hereby
assign, transfer and convey unto the said CORPUS CIRT.STI JUNIOR COLLEGE,
I)T_`3TTZTCT a certain ,ground lease bearing date of April 4, 1915, made by
the CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, a municipal Corporation, to the TRUSTEES for
the A',IERICAN LLGION I?f,.ACEMITT CETMER for a terra of five (5) years from
date of lease, and for the specific and only purposes as set out in said
lease, all and singular, the premises therein mentioned and described.
TO ITAVE AND TO HOLD the same for and during the remainder of the
term mentioned in said lease.
This assignment of lease is made subject to the obtaining of the
written approval of the CITY or CORPUS CHRISTI therefor, and with the fur-
ther limitation and obligation on the part of the Assignee at the expira-
tion of the lease term to remove the said building and all other improve-
ments now located thereon or to be placed thereon, or if the Assignee
should cease to use said building and premises before the expiration of
the lease term for a Veteran's Guidance Center that it will then remove
file building and all improvements from the leased lot, as called for in
said ground lease herein assigned, and return the parcel of land to the

CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI in the condition as provided for in the said ground
lease given by it to Assignor Trustees,

the powers duly given them by resolutions passed by the local American
Legion Posts of Corpus Christi, Texas, execute and deliver this assign -
