APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF THREE HUNDRED AND
SEVENTY -FIVE ($375.00) DOLLARS FROM GENERAL
FUND 10. 102 TO "CONTINGENT ACCOUNT" FOR THE
PURPOSE OF COMPROMISING CLAIM FOR PERSONAL
INJURIES TO HERMAN R. HAWUNS AND DECLARING
AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, on March 17, 1947, Herman R. Hawkins, a minor, was
injured at the La Armada Housing Projeat; and,
WBERFAS, a claim for such injuries was made against the City;
and,
WHEREAS, compromise of such claim has been offered and it is
deemed advisable that the City compromise this damage claim, paying the
sum of Three Hundred and Seventy -five ($375.00) Dollars as its part of
the damages; and,
WHEREAS, there is sufficient funds in General Fund No. 102,
which is now unencumbered and which funds are available for this purpose;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS;
SECTION 1. That there is hereby appropriated the sum of Three
Hundred and Seventy -five ($375.00) Dollars from General Fund No. 102 to
'Contingent Account' to be used for the purpose of settling and compromising
a claim for personal injuries made by Herman R. Hawkins, a minor.
SECTION 2. The fact that it is necessary to settle and compromise
this claim in order to avoid greater expense to the City creates a public
emergency and public imperative necessity requiring the suspension of the
Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on
the date it is introduced and that such ordinance or resolution shall
be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having
declared that such public emergency and imperative necessity exist, and
having requested that such Chaster rule be suspended, and that this
ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take
effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS
ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.

Gentlemen:
I have examined the accounts and fund from which the
appropriation is made, as provided for in the ordinance attached
hereto, and I do certify that the money required for suoh appro-
priation is in the Treasury to the credit of the fund from which
such appropriation is to be drawn, and that there are monies in
such fund which are not appropriated for any other purpose and
which are available at this time.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the
foregoing ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity
exist for the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no
ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is
introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at
three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that
you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance
finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of
the City Council.
