PRESCRIBING THE TAXES TO BE LEVIED, ASSESSED AND
COLLECTED BY THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS,
FOR THE YEAR 1947, AND FOR EACH SUCCEEDING YEAR
THEREAFTER, UNTIL OTHERWISE PROVIDED AND ORDAINED
AND DECLARING AN EEgRRGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXASs
SECTION 1. That there is hereby levied, to be assessed and
collected, in current money of the United States of America, for the
use of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, for the year 1947, and for
each succeeding year thereafter, until otherwise provided and ordained,
an annual direct ad valorem tax of One Dollar ($"1.00) on each One Hun-
dred Dollar ($100.00) value thereof, on all property, real, personal
and mixed, located within the said City of Corpus Christi, Texas, upon
which a tax is authorized to be levied by law, and upon all franchises
of all individuals, partners, and corporations holding franchises from
said City of Corpus Christi, Texas, said tax to be appropriated to the
payment and defrayment of current expenses of the government of said
City; and $0.02 of the $1.00 mentioned above is hereby appropriated to
the interest and sinking fund of the following;
(a) General Funding Warrants, Series 1929, dated
November 1, 1929.
(b) General Fund Refunding Bonds, Series 1936,
dated April 1, 1936.
SECTION 2. That there is hereby levied to be assessed and
collected in current money of the United States of America, for the use
of the City of Corpus Christi, for the year 1947, and for each succeeding
year thereafter until otherwise provided and ordained, an annual direct
ad valorem tax of $0.25 on each One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) of value
thereof, upon all property and franchises described in Section 1 of this
Ordinance, said tax to be appropriated and used in making payments for
general street improvements and for building bridges in the City of Corpus
Christi, Texas, and out of said amount there is hereby appropriated $0.006
of said $0.25 for the purpose of paying interest and to create the necessary
sinking fund to pay the followings

SECTION 3. That for the purpose of paying interest and pro-
viding the necessary sinking funds for the payment of outstanding bonds
and bonded indebtedness of the City of Corpus Christi and for paying
interest and making provisions for the sinking fund of such future issues
as may be authorized, there is hereby levied for the year 1947, and for
each succeeding year thereafter, unless otherwise provided and ordained,
to be assessed and collected in current money of the United States of
America, upon all property and franchises described in Section 1 of this
ordinance, an annual direct ad valorem tax of $0.75 on each One Hundred
Dollars ($100.00) of value thereof, which said taxes, as and when the
same shall be collected, shall be appropriated and credited to the following
bond interest and sinking funds of the City of Corpus Christi:
(a) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.344 for the purpose of paying
Interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay refunding bonds, Series 1936,
dated February 1, 1936;
(b) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby .
appropriated $0.016 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay Airport Extension Refunding Bonds,
Series 1946, dated July 20, 1946;
(c) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.064 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay Sanitary Sewer Improvement and
Extension Bonds, Series 1940, dated June 1, 1940;
(d) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.050 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay Street Improvement Bonds, Series
1940, dated June 1, 1940.
(e) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.040 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay Street Improvement Bonds, Series
1941, dated December 1, 1941.
(f) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.006 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay CITY Hall Improvement Bonds, Series
1937, dated February 1, 1937•
(g) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.080 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay Street Improvement Bonds, Series
1946, dated December 1, 1946.

(h) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.0140 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary ski
inking
fund to pay Hospital Bonds, Series 19L41,
dated December 1, 1941;
(i) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.004 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay Airport Improvement and Drainage
Bonds, Series 1941, dated December 1, 19141.
(j) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.010 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay Park System Improvement Bonds,
Series 19x1, dated December 1, 1941.
(k) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.004 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay Fire Station Bonds, Series 1937,
dated February 1, 1937-
(1) Out of said amount of 30.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.012 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay Fire Station Bonds, Series 19la1,
dated December 1, 1941.
(m) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.010 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay Garbage Disposal Plant Bonds, Series
1941, dated December 1, 191a1.
(n) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.020 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay Sanitary and Storm Sewer Improve-
ment Bonds, Series 1941, Dated December 1, 1911.
(o) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.010 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay City Hall Improvement Bonds, Series
1941, dated December 1, 1941.
(p) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.020 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay Civilian Defense Emergency Bonds,
Series 19!42, dated April 1, 19L�2.
(q) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.010 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
Puad to pay Fire Department Bonds, Series 19144,
dated June 1, 1914.
(r) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.010 for the purpose of paying
interest and creating the necessary sinking
fund to pay Water District Bonds, Series 1929,
dated April 10, 1929.

SECTION 4. All taxes for the year 1947 hereby levied shall
become due and payable at the office of the Tax Assessor- ColleotCr of
the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, on or after the first day of October,
A. D. 1947, and if the taxes levied for said year are not paid on or
before January 31st next after becoming due, interest shall be charged
upon the gross amount of the taxes due and penalty due until paid at the
rate of one -half of one per cent for each month or fraction thereof
thereafter. Said interest shall be in addition to such penalties as
may be hereafter provided for delinquent taxes.
SECTION 5. The fact that the passage of an ordinance for the
levying of taxes for the City of Corpus Christi for the year 1947 is
necessary and important to the people of the City, and the further fact
that the preparation and completion of the tax rolls for the year 1947 is
dependent on the passage of this ordinance, and in order that said tax
roll may be completed and ready for the collection of said taxes, when
the same became due and payable as aforesaid creates a public emergency
and a public imperative necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter
rule providing that no Ordinance or Resolution shall be passed finally
on the date it is introduced, and that such Ordinance or Resolution shall
be read at three meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having
declared that such public emergency and imperative necessity exist,
and having requested that said Chanter rule be suspended and that this
Ordinance be finally passed on the date it is introduced, and take effect
and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS
ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the
foregoing ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity
exist for the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no
ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is
introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at
three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that
you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance
finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of
the City Council.
