1915, PASSED CUT TIL 18TH DAY OF JMT3, 1946, AND

FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF SIDE14ALKS OP. VARIOUS
STREETS IN TBE CITY OF CORPUS CILdISTI, 'fFIICH
CONTRACT RAS PASSED AND APPROVED ON THE 17TH
DAY OF JULY, 1946, AND DECLARING AN EP:^ERGENCY.
dVMMEAS, on the 18th day of June, 1946, by Ordinance No. 1915,
the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, determined the
necessity for and decided to improve portions of certain streets within
the City of Corpus Christi as in said ordinance fully described by
constructing, reconstructing, repairing and realigning sidewalks along
said streets; and,
6VIPs'PZU, on the 11th day of July , 1946, by Ordinance
No. 1925 , the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi entered into
a contract with I.T. J. Construction Company for the construction of side-
walks along the property abutting the streets as defined and limited in
said ordinance No. 1915; and,
u'TEsREtS, on the 1st day of Apri.1 , 1947, the City Council
of the City of Corpus Christi by Ordinance No. 2050 , received and
accepted the work of improving portions of certain streets in the City
of Corpus Christi, Texas, by the construction of sidewalks along the sides
thereof in Areas No. 1 and No. j, except for certain streets in said areas
previously deleted'£rom the project; and,
YTLLREAS, on the 2nd day of September , 1947, the City Council
by Ordinance No. 211' received and accepted the work of improving
portions of certain streets in Areas No. 2, Dio. 4, No. 5, No. 6, No. 7 and
No. 9 by the construction of sidewalks along the sides thereof, except
for certain streets within said areas previously deleted from the project; and,
'AGU REAS, in said Ordinance No. 1915, it was also contemplated that
sidewalks should be constructed in a certain area within the City of
Corpus Christi designated as Area No. 11, being the ioest side of Chaparral
Street from Twigg Street to Taylor Street, and there having been no ordinance

passed calling for an assessment hearing relative to the construction of
sidewalks along said street and there having been no further proceedings
with reference to said streets and it has been agreed between the City
of Corpus Christi and M. J. Construction Company that the City may abandon
the sidewalk project proposed in Ordinance No. 1915 in so far as Area No. 11
is concerned; and,
WIMEAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi having
received and accepted all of the sidewalk construction contemplated by
the said contract between the City of Corpus Christi and M. J. Construction
Company as that contract has been modified by agreement and by various
ordinances of the City of Corpus Christi;
NOffs TIIEREFOR, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COTUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, ThZkS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi
does hereby determine that it is for the best interest of the said City
that Area No. 11 being the West side of Chaparral Street from Twige Street
to Taylor Street be deleted from the sidewalk project as contemplated by
Ordinance No. 1915 and said Area No. 11 is hereby abandoned.
SLCTION 2. That the City of Corpus Christi has received and
accepted all of the work of construction of sidewalks as contemplated under
ordinance No. 1915 and as modified in subsequent ordinances thereto and
there being no further sidewalk construction required by said IvJ. J.
Construction Company, the said City Council of the City of Corpus Christi
does hereby terminate and bring to an end the contract between the City of
Corpus Christi and 141. J. Construction Company which was dated the 17th day
of July, 1946, and finally approved and its execution authorized by
Ordinance No. 1925 passed on the 11th day of July , 1946.
SECTION j. The fact that the sidewalk program as originally
contemplated by the City Council on the loth day of June, 1946, in Ordinance
No. 1915 has been completed in so far as same was practical and the orderly
closing of such project creates a public emergency and imperative public
necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that
no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its

introduction, and that said Ordinance or resolution shall be read at three
several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that
such emergency and public imperative necessity exist, and requested that
said Charter rule be suspended and that this ordinance be passed finally
on the date of its introduction, and take effect and be in full force and
effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.
PASSED and APPROVED this 2' day of Sept., A. D. 1947.

Gentlemen:
For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the
foregoing ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity
exist for the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no
ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is
introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at
three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that
you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance
finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of
the City Council.
