SECTION 1. That paragraph "A" of 3oction 19 of said Ordinance
No. 1688, passed and approved by the City Council on the 20th day of June,
19t4a is hereby amended so that paragraph "A" sriall hereafter read as
follows, to -wit:
"The rate of fare for one or more persons shall be Thirty -
five Cents (3V) for the first mile or fraction thereof and Ten Cents
(10k.) for each additional one-half (z) mile or fraction thereof."
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be cumulative of Ordinance No.
1668 passed and approved by tie City Council on June 20, 1944.
SECT'IuN 3. The fact that the cost of operation of taxicabs
within the City of Gorpus Christi has increased during the past year ren-
aers it essential to increase the charge to be made by taxicabs in order
that the taxicabs may oparate with a maximum of efficiency creates a public
emergency and an imperative public necessity requirin., the suspension of
the Charter rule chat no ordiv:a.ce or resolution shall be passed filially
on the date u£ its introduction, and that said ordinance or resolution
shall be read at three several meeti%s of the City Council u;d the I:Iayor
having declared that such emergency and imperacive public necessity exist,
and requested that said Charter rule be suspended, ::;nd that this ordinance

take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passa6e,
IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of 'the
forcL,oin ordinance, a public eraer;;ency and imperative necessity

ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is
introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at

you suopend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance
finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present maeting of
the City Council
