HomeMy WebLinkAbout02285 ORD - 06/01/1948AN ORDINANCE � , REQUIRING ALL PUBLIC BATH HOUSES AND SWINBUNG POOLS IN THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI TO PROVIDE LIFE GUARDS DURING THE TIME THEY ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS; PRESCRIBING THE PE"NALTY FOR VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY TBE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That any person or persons, firm or corporation operating public bath houses or public swimming pools within the City Limits of the City of Corpus Christi where bathing or swimming facilities are being made available to the public shall at all hours when in oper- ation have at least One life guard, who holds a Senior Red Cross Life Saving Certificate, on duty. SECTION 2. Any person or persons, firm or corporation who violates azry provision of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any am not less than Five ($5.00) Dollars and not more than Two Hundred ($200.00) Dollars for each offense and a failure to comply with this ordinance shall be deemed a continuing offense and each days continuance of a failure to comply herewith shall constitute a separate and distinct offense for each of said days. SECTION 3. The necessity for providing life guards at all public bath houses and public swimming pools in order to protect the lives of the citizens of the City of Corpus Christi creates a public emergency and public imperative necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally OIL the date it is introduced and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such public emergency and imperative necessity exist, and having requested that such Charter rule be suspended, and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED. a�8s Co Christi, Texas G, 194e TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL Corpus Christi, Texas Gentlemen: For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foreg Ding ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that n o ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date 'it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
