AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MUM TO
EXECUTE A OCNTRACT BY AND BETMM THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI AND LEE ALBIsN CO., A CMPORA-
TION, FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF OOLBERSON STREET
STORM DRAINAGE IN THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI.
TEAS. AHD DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorised and directed
to eaeoute for and oa behalf of the City of Corpus Christi, Twos, a Contrast
for the construction of Culberson Street Storm Drainage, which Contract has
been awarded to Lee Aiken Co., a corporation, in accordance with the plans,
specifications and contract doouments on file in the City Seoretaryts office,
and according to the Bid of the said Lee Aiken Co., a corporation, opened on
the 29th day of July, 1948, the said Bid of Lee Aiken Co., a corporation,
being the lowest and moat advantageous to the City.
SECTION 2. The fact that it is to the greatest and beneficial
interest to the City of Corpus Christi that such improvements shall be
i=adiately begun in order to protect the health and general welfare of
its citizens creates a public emergency and public imperative necessity
requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolu-
tion shell be passed finally on the date it is introduced and that such
ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the
City Counoil, and the Mayor having declared that such public emergency
and imperative necessity exist, and having requested that such Charter
rule be suspended, and that this ordinance be passed finally on the
date of its introduotioa and take offset end be in full force and effect
from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency olause of the fore-
going ordinance, a publio emergency and imperative neoessity exist for
the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduoed, and that
suoh ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City
0ounoil, I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter role
or requirement sad peas this ordiasaoe finally on the date it is intro -
duoed, or at the present meeting of the City Gounoil.
