FOR PAVING OF WATER STREET FROM FITZGERALD STREET TO FORMAN AVM; AUTHORIZING PA71MT UNDER SAID CONTRACT; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI. TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed for and an behalf of the City of Corpus Christi to execute a Contraot with M. J. Construction Co., Inc. for paving of Water Street from Fitzgerald Street to Furman Avenue, wbich contract has been awarded said IL J. Construc- tion Co., Inc. in accordance with the plane, specifications and contract documents on file in the City Seoretary's office, and a000rding to the Bid of the said M. J. Construction Co., Inc., being the lowest and most advan- tageous to the City. SECTION 2. That the aum of Two Hundred and Thirty -five Thousand Six Hundred and Fifty-T= Dollars and Seventy -nine Cents ($235,652.79) less W amounts to be paid by abutting property owners by virtue of special assessments, being the amount to be paid under said contract mentioned in Section 1 hereof shall be paid from Street Improvement Bonds 1948 Construc- tion Fund. s SECTION 3. The necessity for adequate street paving within the City limits in order to protect the general welfare of its citizens creates a public emergency and public imperative necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such public emergency and imperative necessity exist, and having requested that such Charter rule be suspended, and that this ordinanoa be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and offset from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.
