HomeMy WebLinkAbout02471 ORD - 02/15/1949AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF AN ELECTION HELD ICI THE CITY OF COME CHRISTI, TEXAS, ON THE 12TH DAY OF FEBRUARY, 1949, ON THE QUESTION OF kMBEH OR NOT A CONTRACT ON BENALF OF TEE CITY AND HOUSTON NATURAL GAS CORPORATION PROVIDING FOR TBE PUR- CHASE OF NATURAL GAS REQUIRED BY THE CITY FOR ITS GAS DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM FOR A PERIOD OF TIMVE YEARS BE APFROM AMID THE CITY COUNCIL BE ADTRORIZID TO CADSE SAID CONTRACT TO BE EXECUTED ON BEHALF OF THE CITY; AND DECLARING AN RMERGENCY. 1EMMAS, heretofore on the 14th day of January, 1949, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Taxers, passed an ordinance calling an election to be held in said City on the 12th day of February, 1949, on the following propo- sition: PROPOSITION "A" "Shall the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, be authorized to osuse to be esccuted a oontract, on behalf of the City, with Houston Natural Gas Corporation for the purchase Of natural gas required by the City for its gas distribution system for a period of twelve years with an option to re- negotiate for an additional eight yearet supply at the end of said twelve -year period at the prices and under the terms as contained in proposed aon- traot, said contract being act out in Ordinance No. 2445 pamaed and approved by the City Covnoil of the City of Cor- pus Christi, Taxes, on January 14th, 1949 ? That the proposition to authorize and approve a contract between the City and the Houston Natural Gas Corporation for the purchase of natural gas required by the City for its gas distribution system for a period of twelve years, said contract having been set out in Ordinance No. Q0 passed end approved by the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi oa Janoary 1.14.th, 1949, was sustained by a majority of the qualified electors voting at said election in the City of Corpus Christi, and the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, is hereby authorized to cause to be executed said contract with the Houston Natural Gas Corporation in accordance with said proposition. SECTION 2. The necessity for providing adequate gas facilities for the citizens o£ the City and the necessity for procuring a long tarn supply of gas for the City creates a public amergenoy and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter Rule providing that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and requiring that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Couaoil, and the Mayor.having declared that such public emergenoy and imperative public necessity exist, and having requested that said Charter rule be suspended, and that this ordinance take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDIIIGLY SC OnDAINED.
