HomeMy WebLinkAbout02532 ORD - 06/04/1949AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATED AS ORDINANCE N0, 17911 ENTITLED, "AN ORDINANCE DECLARING THE POLICY OF TIPc CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, IN REGARD TO EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY;" SO AS TO PROVIDE TIIAT ALL FULL HTE EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY SHALL BE PAID ON THE BASIS OF FORTY (4o) HOURS WORK PER WEEK EY AMENDING SECTION 3 OF SAID ORDINANCE NO. 17911; MID DE- CLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CIR2ISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Section 3 of Ordinance No, 1794 be amended so as to hereafter read as follows: "SECTION 3. All full -time employees of the City of Corpus Christi shall work and be on duty not less than Forty (40) hours per week." SECTION 2. All other provisions of said Ordinance No. 1794 hereby continue in full force and effect according to the terms of said Ordinance. SECTION 3. The fact that the welfare of the City of Corpus Christi and its citizens requires that employees of the City be employed on the same basis as employees of the public in general and that such hours of employment will enable the employees to devote their full time and energy during business hours to the discharge of the work of the City creates a public emergency and public imperative necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no Ordinance or Resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such Ordinance or Resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such public emer- gency and imperative necessity a xist, and having requested that such Charter rule be suspended, and that this ordihence be passed finally on the data of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.
