COLLECTED BY THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, FOR THE YEAR 1919, AND FOR EACH SUCCEEDING YEAR THEREAFTER, UNTIL OT MNISE PROVIDED AND ORDAINED, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI. TEXAS: SECTION 1. That there is hereby levied, to be assessed and collected, in current money of the United States of America, for the use of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, for the your 1949, and for each succeeding year thereafter, until otherwise provided and ordained, an annual direct ad valorem tax of one Dollar ( ;1.00) on each one Hun- dred Dollar ($100.00) value thereof. on 911 property, real, personal and mixed, located within the said City of Corpus Christi, Texas, upon which a tax is authorised to be levied by lass end upon all franchises of all individuals, partners, and corporations holding franchises from said City of Corpus Christi, Texas, said tax to be appropriated to the payment and defrayment of current expenses of the government of said City, and $0.02 of the $1.00 mentioned above is hereby appropriated to the interest and ainlUg fund of the following, (a) General Funding Warrants, Series 1929, dated November 1, 1929. (b) General Faced Refunding Bonds, Series 1936, dated April 1, 1936• SECTION 2. That there is hereby levied to be assessed and collected in current money of the United States of America, for the we of the City of Corpus Christi, for the year 1949, and for each succeed- ing year thereafter until otherwise provided and ordained, an annual direct ad valorem tax x£.$0.25 on each One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) of value thereof, upon all property and franchises described in Section 1 of this Ordinance, said tax to be appropriated and used in making payments for general street improvements and for building bridges in the City of Corpus Christi, Texas. SECTION 3. All taxes for the year 1949 hereby levied shall become due and payable at the office of the Tax Assessor- Collector of the City of Corpus Christi, Tease, on or after the first day of October, A. D. 1949, and if the taxes levied for maid year are,not paid on or be- fore January 31st next after becoming due, interest shall be charged upon the groan amount of the taxes due and penalty due until paid at the rate of one -half of one per cent for each month or fraction thereof thereafter. Said interest shall be in addition to such penalties as may be hereafter provided for delinquent taxes. SECTICK 5. The fact that the passage of an ordinance for the levying of taxes for the City of Corpus Christi for the year 1949, is necessary and important to the people of the City, and the further fact that the preparation and oompletim of the tax rolls for the year 1949 is dependent on the passage of this ordinance, and in order that said tax roll may be completed and ready for the collection of said taxes, .hen the same become due and payable as aforesaid, creates a public emergency and a public imperative necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule providing that no Ordinance or Resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such Ordinance or Resolution shell be read at three meetings of the City Council, and the Meyer having declared that such public emergency and imperative necessity exist, and having requested that said Charter rule be suspended and that this Ordi- nance be finally passed on the date it is introduced, and take effect end be in Full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORD- INGLY SO ORDAINED. - PASSED AND APPROVED this day of August, A.
