AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2204 PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL ON THE 30TH DAY OF DECEMBER, 1947, COMMONLY
JKNOWN AS THE ELECTRICAL CODE FOR THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS, BY AMENDING CHAPTER 9, SECTION 9-7, PARAGRAPH (a)
AS HERETOFORE AMENDED BY ORDINANCES NOS. 2308 and 2593, SO
AS TO PROVIDE THAT ALL ELECTRICAL WIRING BE ENCASED IN
RIGID METALLIC CONDUIT OR ELECTRICAL METALLIC CONDUIT OR IN
RIGID METALLIC TUBING,BY DELETING FROM SAID PARAGRAPH AS
AMENDED THE 'WORDS "FOR LIGHTS, HEAT ANDPOWER, OR OTHER PUR-
POSES," AND, AS ITELL, TEE LAST TWO SENTENCES THEREFROM;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, heretofore on the 30th day of December, 1947, the City
Council of the City Corpus Christi, Texas, passed finally an Ordinance en-
titled:
"AN ORDINANCE
REGULATING ELECTRIC WIRING WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS
OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, FOR SAFEGUARDING
PERSONS AND PROPERTY AND PROMOTING THE 7ELFARE OF THE
PUBLIC; CREATING THE OFFICE OF CHIEF ELECTRICAL INSPEC-
TOR AND PRESCRIBING HIS DUTIES, RIGHTS AND AUTHORITY;
ESTABLISHING STANDARDS FOR ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND FOR
ITS INSTALLATION AND REQUIRING CONFORMCTY THEREWITH;
WZING IT UNL&WFUL TO UNDERTAIM THE INSTALLATION OF ELEC-
TRICAL ERUIPNCENT WITHOUT A PERMIT THEREFOR, EXCEPT AS
OTHERWISE PROVIDED; PROVIDING FOR THE REGISTRATION OF
ELECTRICAL WORXERS AND CONTRACTORS; ESTABLISHING INSPEC-
TION PERMM FEES; PROVIDING PENAIX IES FOR THE VIOLATION
OF THIS ORDINANCE AND REPEALING ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
WITH THIS ORDINANCE."
and
WHEREAS, said Ordinance was amended by Ordinance No* 2308, on the
29th day of June, 1948, and by Ordinance No. 2593, on the 20th day of Septem-
ber, 1949, as to Chapter 9, Section 9-7, Paragraph (a); and
WHEREAS, it is considered to the best interests of the City of
Corpus Christi, Texas, that said ordinance, as amended, be amended in the
particulars hereinafter set forth:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI. TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Chapter 90 Section 9..7, Paragraph (a) of
Ordinance No. 2204 is hereby amended and the same shall hereafter read as
follows, to -wit:
"(a) WIRING TO BE ENCASED IN CONDUIT: All elec-
tric- wiring hereafter to be installed in or on buildings
within the City of Corpus Christi other than one or two -
family residences and decorative street stringers shall
in all cases be installed and encased in rigid metallic
conduit or electrical metallic conduitzor electrical metal-
lic tubing."

SECTION 2. The necessity for providing proper regulations
regarding the Electrical Code for the City of Corpus Christi creates a
public emergency and public imperative necessity requiring the suspension
of the Charter rule that no Ordinance or Resolution shall be passed finally
on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall
be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor hav-
ing requested that such Charter Rule be suspended, declaring that such
public emergency and imperative necessity exist, and that this Ordinance
be passed finally on the date of its introduction, and take effect and be
in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS accordingly SO
ORDAINED.
PASSED AND APPROVED This 7th day of March, A.D. 1950.

Gentlemen:
For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore-
going ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for
the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and
that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the
City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter
rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
