UPON THE PUBLIC.`STREETS, ALLEYS, AND OTHER THOROUGHFARES IN TIE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, AND FIXING PENALTY FOR VIOLATIONS AND REPE3L- ING ALI, OTHER ORDINANCES AND SECTIONS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HERETITH. ", BY AMENDING SECTION 65 of ARTICLE VIII THEREOF, AND DECLARING AN LMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI. TEXAS: SECTION I. That Section 65, Article VIII of Ordinance No, 2241 shall be and is hereby amended so as to hereafter read as follows; "SECTION 65. Signs to bear the word tStop'. -- Every sign erected pursuant to this article shall bear the word FStop' in letters not less than 5 inches in height and such sign may at night time be rendered luminous by steady or flashing in- ternal illumination, or by a fixed floodlight pro- jected on the face of the sign, or by efficient re- flecting elements on the face of the sign. Every stop sign shall be located as near as practicable at the nearest line of the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, at the near- est line of the roadway." SECTION II. The fact that it is imperative and necessary to the public safety and general welfare to regulate traffic upon public streets of this City creates a public emergency and imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of that certain Charter Rule which provides that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such necessity and emergency exist, requesting such Charter rule be suspended and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO OR- DAINED. 'Singer -In a" tG i #, / 9S"6 APPROVED AS TO LEGAL FORMt City Attorney TO TBE IMMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL Corpus Christi, Texas Gentlemen: For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore- going ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordin- ance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is intro- duced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter Rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
