AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2540 PASSED AND APPROVED
BY THE CITY COUNCIL ON THE 14TH DAY OF NNE A.D.
1949, BY AMENDING SECTION 3 OF SAID ORDINANCE
CORRECTING THE ASSESSMENTS LEVIED. AGAINST ABUTTING
PROPERTY OWNERS ON WATER STREET FROM THE NORTH
PROPERTY LINE OF FITZGERALD STREET TO.THE SOUTH
PROPERTY LINE OF FURMAN AVENUE; AND DECLARING
AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDkINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Section 3 of Ordinance No. 2540 passed and
approved by the City Council on the 14th day of June, 1949, is hereby
amended and said Section 3 of said ordinance shall hereafter read as
follows, to-wit:
"SECTION 3. That in pursuance of said ordinance, duly enacted,
by said City Council, authorizing and ordering the improvement of
Water Street, within the limits hereinabove named and defined, and
in pursuance of said proceedings heretofore had and enacted by said
City Council in reference to said improvements and by virtue of the
powers vested in said City with respect to said street improvements
by the Laws of the State of Texas and the Charter of said City, with
particular reference to Chapter 106 of the Acts bf the First Called
Session of the 40th Legislature of the State of Texas, known and
shown as Article U05—B of Vernonls Annotated Civil Statutes of
Texas, as amended, there shall be, and is hereby levied, assessed
and taxed against the respective parcels of property abutting upon
said portion of said street, and against the real and true owners
thereof, whether such real and true owner or owners be named or
correctly named herein or not, the several sums of money hereinbelow
mentioned and itemized opposite the description of the respective
parcels of said property, the number of front feet of each and the
several amounts assessed against same and the real and true owner or
owners thereof, and the names of the apparent owners thereof, all as
corrected and adjusted by said City Council, being as follows, to -wit:

SECTION 2. The necessity for amending said Ordinance No. 2540
in order to show the correct property owners abutting upon Water Street
within the limits above defined, and in order to properly levy assessments
concerning same, creates a public emergency and an imperative public
necessity, requiring the suspension of the Charter Rule, that no ordinance
or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction, and
that said ordinance shall be read at three several meetings of the City
Council, and the Mayor having declared that such emergency and imperative
public necessity exists, and having requested that the Charter Rule be
suspended and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its
introduction and that this ordinance take effect and be in Rill force and
effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCCHDINGLY 90 CRIAINED,
PASSED AND APPROVED this the 1W-9 day of April, A. D. 1950.

Gentlemen:
For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the
foregoing ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity
exist for the suspension of the Charter Rule or requirement that
nocrdinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it
is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read
at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, hereby request
that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this
ordinance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present
meeting of the City Council.
