Applicrticn has been made to the City CoLmoil
for the date rr rtirg, fixing, and rf•�ulating of the rates, fares,
and charges, and prescribing ittax:U,um rates of array persons, firms,
coraorations, or associations of persons engaged in the business
of owning or operating motor buses used for the carrying of pas -
sengors for hire in or upon the public streets and thoroughfares
of L-,hn ^,ity of Corpus Christi, Texosi and
M.1ERBA.S, Fublie hearing upon said application was set
for 2 o'clock p.m., April 20, 1950, in the Council Chamber of
the City Council of the City cf Corpus Christi, Texas; and

and are creating substantial losses to the utility presently

City, and that such leases are o.f such nature as vaill affect
the publio convenience and necessity through curtailment of

ax, d. charges of said utility, and it being .further found by the
City Council that reasonable rates of fare are the rates, fares,
and charges hereinafter provided; and

as thereafter amended by Ordinance Ne. 1501, as thereafter amend-
ed by Ordinance No. 1509, and as thereafter amended by Ordinance

thereof so that hereafter Section 1 shall read in words and in
°figures as iollowse
"SECTION 1. That hereafter all persons, firms,
corporations or associatie.,s of persons engaged in the
business of owrinG or operating motor buses used for
the carrying of passengers for hire in or upon the rub-
ric streets, alleys and thorouLhfares of the City of
Corpus Christ;- shall charge for such service v. rate or
rates not in excess of the following schedule:
(1) For parsons over the a ^e of twelve (12)
years, the semi of Tan Cents (10if) per person;
(2) For children from the a_.e of six (6) to
twelve (12) years, both inclusive, one -Half (1 %2)
the faXe charged for adults;
(3) For students in actual attendance u on
any academic public school or private school of
gracics not higher than the grades of the public
schools of the City of Corpus Christi, between the
hours of eight A.1.T. to six F.Y., and durint the
,Lcnths :Then schools arc in actual session, five
cent, (5A;
(�,I For childron under the age of six (6)
years, when accompanying a fare payin,, passenger,
r, shall. be no charge;
(i) Transfers shall be issued to all patrons
of the line or lines of said utility company be-
tween all routes of said utility company, without
additional charge, for one continuous trip.
SECTION 2. That such amendment shall take effect �Md be
in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage
and uublication.
SECTICIT, 3• The fact that existing rates under existing
business conditions have created and are creating substantial

streets and thoroughfares of the City cf Corpus Christi are of
such stature as will affect the „ublie convenience and necessity,
tivrou,;h curtailicent of service, creates a public emergency and
imper.itl.ve public necessity requiring the suspension of the
Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed
finally or:. the day it is introduced and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City
Council, and the Mayor, having declared that said emergency and
necessity exist, requesting that such Charter rule be suspended
and that this ordinance bo passed fin.11y on the d%y it is
introduced and that it take effect and be in full force and
effect from and after its passage, IT IS LCCORDINGLY SO ORDAINZ.

Gentlemen:
For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore-
going ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for
the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and
that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the
City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter
rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council,
