AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY
TO ACQUIRE A RIGBT- OF -.W&y FROM THE
GREET{ ORTHODOX CHURCH FOR THE WIDEN-

ADDITION TO THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
DICE NOT TO EXCEED $810 AND OTHER

ING FOR SUCH PAYMENT TO BE MADE OF FUND
NO. 296 IMPROVEMENT BONDS 1950 CONSTRUC-
TION F$ NTS); AUTHOR-
IZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO
DO.ALL THINGS REQUISITE TO THE PURCHASE
AFORESAID TO OBTAIN SAID RIGHT -OF -WAY:
AND DECLARING AN 12ERGENCY. .
WHEREAS, There is needed that certain right -of -way as
hereinafter described out of Lot 6, Block 3, Broadway Courts
Addition to the City of Corpus Christi, for the widening of
Chaparral Street; and
WHEREAS, The Greek Orthodox Church is the owner there-
of and has agreed to convey the same to the City; and
VUNE w' Such conveyance will necessitate the relocat-
ing of a building now under construction by the Greek Orthodox
Church on said Lot 61 and such relocation will cause damage re-
quiring an additional fill on the remaining and uaconveyed por-
tion of Lot 6, which fill of approximately 1,000 years will be
placed by City Forces in satisfaction of such damages;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF' CORPUS CHRISTI, TLI AS,
SECTION 1, That the City Manager is hereby authorized
and directed to acquire for and on behalf of the City of Corpus
Christi, the following described right- of-way needed for the
widening of Chaparral Street in the City of Corpus Christi=
A strip of land twenty-five (251) feet
in width and 113.03 feet in length and
being the west twenty -five (251) feet
of Lot 6, Block 3, of the Broadway Courts
Addition to the City of Corpus Christi, as
shown by map or plat of record in Volume 3,
Z ?73.

County, Texas, to which reference is
hereby made for more particular desorip-
tion;
from the Greek Orthodox Church, owner.
SECTION 2. That the City Manager is hereby authorized
and directed to do all things incident to or requisite to ob-
taining the title and possession of said right -of -way.
SECTION 3. That the purchase price, not to exceed 0810,
to be paid said Greek Orthodox Church shall be paid from Fund
No. 296 Improvement Bonds 1950 Construction Fund (Street Im prove -
ments), and that the filling herein specified be done with City
Forces as and in full satisfaction of all claims for damages on
the part of said Greek Orthodox Church.
SECTION 4. The necessity for the widening of Chaparral
Street so as to insure the growth and development of the City of
Corpus Christi by relieving existing and probable future traffic
congestion along said street, and the need for obtaining said
right -of -way immediately to expedite the ocmpletion of such im-
provement creates a public emergency and imperative public neces-
sity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordin-
ance or resolution shall be passed finally on the day it is in-
troduoed and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at
three several meetings of the City Council, and the 11ayor, haves
ing declared such emergency and necessity to exist, requesting
that said Charter rule be suspended and that this ordinance be
passed finally on the day it is introduced and that this ordin-
anoe be and take effect and be in full forge and effect frcm and
after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore-
going ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for
the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or
resolution shall be parsed finally on the date it is introduced, and
that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the
City Cbuaoilj I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter
rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Counoil.

I certify to the City Council that the money required
for the contract, agreement, obligation, or expenditure contemplated
in the above and foregoing Ordinance is in the Treasury of the City
of Corpus Christi to the credit of blind Uo. 296 Improvement Bonds 1950
Const. Fund (Street Imp,) from which it is proposed to be drawn,
and such money is not appropriated for any other purpose.
