PROVIDING FOR THE rSTABLISHNL;NT OF
PEDESTRIAN - ACTUATED TRAFFIC CONTROL DE-
VICES, AD. DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1, That Ordinance No. 2241, passed by the
City Council on the 2nd day of March, 191183 and b eing entitled,
"AN ORDINANCE .REGULP_TING TRAFFIC UPOI\I THE
PUBLIC S REL'TS, ALLEYS, A;iD OTHER THOROUGH -
FARES IN THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS,
AND FIXING PENALTY FOR VIOLATIONS PITT) RE-
PEALING ALL OTHER O,RDINVICES AND SECTIONS
OF C- FMINMCES IN CONFLICT HfFW,,d7ITH,1'
is hereby amended by the addition thereto of a section to be
known as Section h5 -A3 which shall read as follows:
"SECTION 45 -A - PEDESTRI_AN ACTUATED
CON'T'ROL DEVICES - The City Traffic engineer
shall place and maintain such pedestrian-
actuated traffic control devices as he may
deem necessary to regulate traffic under the
traffic ordinances of this City or under State
law, or to effectuate the safe, orderly and
speedy flow of traffic. By the term, "pedes-
trian-actuaterl traffic control devices ", is
meant any traffic control device utilizing
the standard signals established by this
ordinance, so equipped that a. pedestrian
wishing to cross the street may actuate such
device so that it displays a "Stop" signal to
vehicular traffic. Any person who shall fail
to obey a signal Given by a pedestrian- actuated
traffic control device, or any person who shall
actuate a pedestrian- actuated traffic control de-
vice without intending.- to corss a street under the
protection of such traffic control device, shall
be guilty of a violation of this ordinance."
SECTION 2. The fact that pedestrian - actuated traffic
control devices have been installed in the City of Corpus Christi,
and the necessity for the establishment of rules for their proper
use, create a public emergency and imperative public necessity
requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the day it is introduced
and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three
several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having de-
clared that such emergency and necessity exist, requesting that
said Charter rule be suspended and that this ordinance be passed
finally on the date it is introduced and take effect and be in
full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY
SO ORDAINED.

Gentlemen:
For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore-
going ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for
the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and
that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the
City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter
rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
