AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING ORDINANCE NUMBER 2204, ENTITLED "AN
ORDINANC E REGULATING ELECTRIC WIRING WITHIN
THE CORPORATE LIMITS 0 CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS FOR SAFEGUARDING PERSONS AND
PROPERTY AND PROMOTING THE WELFARE OF THE PUBLIC;
CREATING THE OFFICE OF CHIEF ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR
AND PRESCRIBING HIS DUMS, RICHTS AUTHO ;
ESTABLISHING STANDARDS FOR ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT
AND FOR ITS INSTALLATION AND REQUIRING CONFORMITY
THEREWITH; MAKING IT UNLAWFUL TO UNDERTAKE THE IN-
STALLATION OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT WITHOUT A PER-
MIT THEREFOR, EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED; PRO -
VIDING FOR TH'' REGISTRATION OF ELECTRICAL WORKERS
AND CONTRACTORS; ES -B ISHING INSPECTION PERMIT
FEESgING PENALTIES FOR THE V OLATION OF
1= ORDINANCE RE ING ORDINANC IN CON-
FLICT WITH THIS ORDINANCE" AS THEREAFTER AMENDED
AND NOW IN EFFECT, BY AMENDING SECTION 1 and 2
OF CHAPTER 4 - SECTION 4 -1 and SECTION 4 -2 - OF
SAID ORDINANCE NO. 2204 AND AMENDMENTS THERETO;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, The Electrical Ordinance of the City of
Corpus Christi does not contain provision for sufficient number
of members to be appointed on the Examining and Supervisory Board
of Electricians with the qualifications of having general business
experience in a supervisiory or proprietary capacity, and it is
to the best interest of the public that a person with such quali-
fications be added as an eighth member to said board:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Ordinance No. 2204, adopted on the 30th
day of December, 1947, entitled:
"AN ORDINANCE REGULATING ELECTRIC WIRING
WITHIN THE CORPORA'2E LIMITS OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, FOR SAFEGUARDING
PERSONS AND PROPERTY AND PROMOTING THE WEL-
FARE OF THE PUBLIC; CREATING THE OFFICE OF
CHIEF ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR AND PRESCRIBING
HIS DUTIES, RIGHTS AND AUTHORITY; ESTABLISH-
ING STANDARDS FOR ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND
FOR ITS INSTALLATION AND REQUIRING CONFORMITY
THEREWITH; MAKING IT UNLAWFUL TO UNDERTAKE THE
INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT WITHOUT
A PERMIT THEREFOR, EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PRO-
VIDED; PROVIDING FOR THL REGISTRATION OF ELEC-
TRICAL WORKERS AND CONTRACTORS; ESTABLISHING
INSPECTION PERMIT FEES; PROVIDLgG PENALTIES
FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE AND RE-
PEALING ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT WITH THIS ORDIN-
ANCE"
as thereafter amended and now in effect, by amending Sections
1 and 2 of Chapter 4 - Section 4 -1 and Section 4 -2 - of said
Ordinance No. 22011 and amendments thereto so as to hereafter
read as follows:
"Section 11 -1: EXAMINING AND SUPERVISORY BOARD
OF ELECTRICIANS CREATED: There is hereby created the
"Examining and Supervisory Board of Electricians" con-
sisting of eight (8) persons. Said Board shall include
five (5) appointive members and three ex-officio mem-
bers. The appointive members shall be appointed by the
Mayor and Council. The ex- officio members shall be
the Chief Electrical Inspector, the City Electrician
and the Head of Engineering and Construction Division
or the Director of Public 'Works. The Head of Engin-
eering and Construction Division and Director of Public
Works shall have, together or singly, one vote.
"Section 4 -2: QUA,IFICATIONS: Persons who serve
on the Examining and Supervisory Board of Electricians
as appointive members shall be qualified as follows:
(a) Two persons each of whom shall have had at

least IM (J years active experience as
a Master Electrician.
(b) One person shall have had at least five (5)
years active experience as a journeyman Elec-
trician.
(c) One person shall have had at least five (5)
years experience as Electrical Engineer.
(d) One person shall have had business experience,
supervisory or proprietary, or experience close-
ly related thereto."
SECTION 2. All other provisions of said Ordinance No.
2204, including all amendments heretofore adopted SAVE AND EXCEPT As
herein amended, be continued in full force and effect.
SECTION 3. The fact that it is to the best interest

of the public that at least two (2) persons having experience
as Master Electricians be appointed as members of said Board
creates a public emergency and imperative public necessity re-
quiring a suspension of the Charter rule providing that no
Ordinance or Resolution shall be passed finally on the day it
is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be
read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the
Mayor having declared that such public emergency and impera-
tive public necessity exists and having requested that said
Charter rule be suspended and that this ordinance be passed
finally on the day it is introduced and take effect and be
in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS SO
ORDAINED.

Gentlemsn:
For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore-
going ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for
the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and
that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the
City Counoil; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter
rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
