AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER
FOR AND ON BEHALF.OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS, TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH
SOUTHERN STEEL COMPANY OF SAN AN ONO, TEA-

TEXAS, AND THE INSTALLATION THEREOF: SAID
CONTRACT AND DOCUMENTS, PLANS AND SPECIFI-
CATIONS BEING MADE A PART HEREOF BY REFER -
ENCE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, Certain improvements have been determined to
be necessary, and
WHEREAS. Bids have been received, considered, and an
award made for the lowest and most advantageous bid to the City of
Corpus Christi, Texas, and it is now necessary to enter into a con-
tract for the furnishing of all jail equipment to be incorporated
in the new police building to be constructed at Brownlee and Buffalo
in the City of Corpus Christi, Texas:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized
and directed to execute for and on behalf of the City of Corpus Christi,
Texas, a contract for all jail equipment to be incorporated in the
new police building in the City of Corpus Christi, and the installation
thereof, with Southern Steel Company of San Antonio, Texas, ihich con-
tract has been awarded said Southern Steel CompaW in accordance with
the plans and specifications and contract documents on file in the
office of the City Secretary, all incorporatedherein and made a part
hereof by reference, and according to the bid of said Southern Steel
Company opened on the 27th day of June, 1950, said bid being the
lowest and most advantageous to the City of Corpus Christi, Texas.
SECTION 2. The contract for a new police building for
the City of Corpus Christi having been awarded, it is now necessary

to provide for jail equipment to be installed in said building, so
as to facilitate the completion of such police building for use and
occupancy, all of rich creates a public emergency and imperative
public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that
provides that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on
the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or resolution
shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and
the Mayor, having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, re-
questing that such Charter rule be suspended and that this ordinance
be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect
and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS
ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED. 1

Gentlemen:
For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore-
going ordinanoe, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for
the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and
that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the
City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter
rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
