HomeMy WebLinkAbout02806 ORD - 07/06/1950IMSi.nger: gp 6/- 7/3/50 (5) AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $171,900 TO BE PAID OUT OF FUND 0., 296 IMPROVEMENT BONDS 1950 CONSTRUCTION FUND (POLICE BUILDING) ERATTMr7W =CON- SMCTION ZY A POLICE BUILDING (PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING FOR THE POLICE DIVISION) FOR THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS; AUTHORIZING AND DIRECT- ING THE CITY MANAGER FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH E. EISENHAUER FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF SAID BUILD ,_3M7 7`RACT AND DOCUMENTS, PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS BEING MADE A PART HEREOF BY REFERENCE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, Certain construction having been determined to be necessary; and WHEREAS, There are sufficient funds available and not appropriated in Fund No. 296 Improvement Bonds 1950 Construction Fund (Police Building) to be paid as consideration for such con- struction, and WHEREAS, Bids have been received, considered and an award made for the lowest and most advantageous bid to the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, and it is now necessary to make such appropriation and to enter into a contract for such construction in accordance with said award: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That there is hereby appropriated out of Fund No. 296 Improvement Bonds 1950 Construction Fund (Police Building) the sum of $171,900:00, out of which fund there is to be paid ac- cording to the terms of the contract described in Section 2 hereof the sum of $171,000, and the balance of said appropriation is the amount of $900.00 to be paid as consideration for aluminum sash windows and the installation thereof. SECTION 2. That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to execute for and on behalf of the City of Corpus Christi a contract for the construction of a police building, to be known as the Public Safety Building for the Police Division, in the City of Corpus Christi, with E. Eisenhauer of Corpus Christi, Texas, which contract has been awarded said E. Eisenhauer in accord- ance with plans and specifications and contract documents on file in the office of the City Secretary, all incorporated herein and made a part hereof by reference, and according to the bid of said E. Eisenhauer opened on the 2 7th day of June, 1950, said bid being the lowest and most advantageous bid to the City of Corpus Christ, Texas. SECTION 3. The necessity for commencement of the con- struction of said building at once in accordance with plans here- tofore enacted to provide adequate facilities for the housing of the Police Department of the City to alleviate congestion in said department by reason of the rapid growth and development of the City and to provide space for the possible future expansion of said department creates a public emergency and imperative public necessity requiringthe suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, requesting that such Charter rule be suspended and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.
