AN ORDINANCE
PRESCRIBING THE TAXES TO BE LEVIED, ASSESSED
AND COLLECTED BY THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS, FOR THE YEAR 1950, AND FOR EACH SUCCEED-
ING YEAR THE:EAFTER, UNTIL OTHNMVISE PROVIDED
AND ORDAINED, AND DECLARING AN aERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That there is hereby levied, to be assessed and
collected, in current money of the United States of America, for
the use of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, for the Year 1950
and for each succeeding year thereafter, until otherwise provid-
ed and ordained, an annual direct ad valorem tax of One Dollar
$1.00) on each One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) value thereof, on
all property, real, personal and mixed, located within the said
City of Corpus Christi, Texas, upon which a tax is authorized to
be levied by law, and upon all franchises of all individuals,
Partners, and corporationsholding franchises from said City of
Corpus Christi, Texas, said tax to be appropriated to the pay-
ment and defrayment of current expenses of the government of
said City; and $0.02 of the $1.00 mentioned above is hereby ap-
propriated to the interest and sinking fund of the following;
(a) General Funding Warrants, Series
1929, dated November 1, 1929;
(b) General Fund Refunding Bonds,
Series 1936, dated April 1, 1936.
SECTION 2. That there is hereby levied to be assessed
and collected in current money of the United States of America,
for the use of the City of Corpus Christi, for the Year 1950,
and for each succeeding year thereafter until otherwise provided
and ordained, an annual direct ad valorem tax of $0.25 on each
One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) of value thereof, upon all property
and franchises described in Section 1 of this Ordinance, said
tax to be appropriated and used in making payments for general
street improvements and for building bridges in the City of
Corpus Christi, Texas.

SECTION 3, That for the purpose of paying interest and
providing the necessary sinking funds for the payment of outstand-
ing bonds and bonded indebtedness of the City of Corpus Christi,
and for paying interest and making provisions for the sinking
fund of such future issues as may be authorized, there is here-
by levied for the year 1950, and for each succeeding year there-
after, unless otherwise provided and ordained, to be assessed
and collected in current money of the United States of America,
upon all property and franchises described in Section 1 of this
Ordinance, an annual direct ad valorem tax of $0.75 on each One
Hundred Dollars ($100.00) of value thereof, which said taxes,
as and when the same shall be collected, shall be appropriated
and credited to the following bond interest and sinking funds
of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas:
(a) Out of said amount of $0.75 there
is hereby appropriated $0.209 for the
purpose of paying interest and creat-
ing the necessary sinking fund to pay
Refunding Bonds, Series 1936, dated
February 1, 1936;
(b) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.008 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating
the necessary sinking fund to pay
Municipal Auditorium Bonds, Series 1950,
dated January 15, 1950;
(c) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.012 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating
the necessary sinking fund to pay
Police Building Bonds, Series 1950,
dated January 15, 19503
(d) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0. 32 for the pur-
pose of paying interestland creating
the necessary sinking fund to pay
Storm Sewer Bends, Series 1950, dated
January 15, 1950;
(e) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.005 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating
the necessary sinking fund to pay
Street Traffic Control System Bonds,
series 1950, dated January 15, 1950;
(£) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.018 for the
purpose of paying interest and creat-
ing the necessary sinking fund to
pay Airport Extension Refunding Bonds,
Series 1946, dated July 20, 1946;
(g) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.046 for the
purpose of paying interest and creat-
ing the necessary sinking fund to pay
Sanitary Sewer Improvement and Exten-
sion Bonds, Series 1940, dated June 1,
1940;
(h) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.036 for the
purpose of paying interest and creat-
ing the necessary sinking fund to pay
Street Improvement Bonds, Series 1940,
dated June 1, 1940;
(i) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.020 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating
the necessary sinking fund to pay
Street Improvement Bonds, Series 1941,
dated December 1, 1941;
(j) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.024 for the
purpose of paying interest and creat-
ing the necessary sinking fund to pay
City Hall Bonds, Series 1950, dated
January 15, 1950;
(k) out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.041 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay Street Im-
provement Bonds, Series 1946, dated
December 1, 1946;
(1) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.012 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating
the necessary sinking fund to pay
Street Improvement Bonds, Series 1950,
dated January 15, 1950;
(m) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.028 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay Hospital
Bonds, Series 1941, dated December 1,
1941,
(n) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.006 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay Park System
Improvement Bonds, Series 1941, dated
December 1, 1941;
(o) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.008 for the
purpose of paying interest and creating
the necessary sinking fund to pay Public
Park Bonds, Series 1950, dated January
15, 1950;
(p) Out of the amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.007 for the
purpose of paying interest and creat-
ing the necessary sinking fund to pay
Airport Improvement and Drainage Bonds,
Series 1941, dated December 1941;
(q) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.008 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating
the necessary sinking fund to pay Fire
Station Bonds, Series 1941, dated
December 1, 1941;
(r) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.005 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay Fire Sta-
tion Bonds, Series 1950, dated January
15, 1950;
(s) Out of said amount of $0,75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.006 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating the
nocessary sinking fund to pay Garbage
Disposal Plant B nds, Series 1941, dated
December 1, 1941;
(t) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.0111 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay Sanitary
and Storm Sewer Improvement Bonds, Series
1941, dated December 1, 1941;
(u) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.006 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating
the necessary sinking fund to pay City
Hall Improvement Bonds, Series 1941,
dated December 1, 1941;
(v) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is here-
by appropriated $0.011 for the purpose of
paying interest and creating the necessary
sinking fund to pay Civilian Defense Em-
ergency Bonds, Series 1942, dated April 1,
1942;
(w) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is here-
by appropriated $0.008 for the purpose of
Paying interest and creating the necessary
sinking fund to pay Fire Department Bonds,
Series 19440 dated June 1, 1944;
W Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.004 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating
the necessary sinking fund to pay Water
District Bonds, Series 1929, dated April
10, 1929;
(y) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.008 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay Airport
Improvement Bonds, Series 1948, dated
June 1, 1948;
(z) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated ;0.011 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating
the necessary sinking fund to pay Park
Bonds, Series 1948, dated June 1, 1948;
(as) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.059 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay Storm Sewer
Bonds, Series 1948, dated June 1, 1948;
(ab) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is
hereby appropriated $0.041 for the pur-
pose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay Sanitary
Selver Improvement Bonds, Series 1948,
dated June 1, 1948;
(ac) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is here-
by appropriated $0.027 for the purpose of
paying interest and creating the necessary
sinking fund to pay Street Improvement Bonds,
Series 1948, dated June 1, 1948;
(ad) Out of said amount of $0.75 there is hereby
appropriated $0.010 for the purpose of pay-
ing interest and creating the necessary sink-
ing fund to pay Waterworks Improvement Bonds,
Series 1941, dated December 1, 1941;
SECTION 4. All taxes for the year 1950 hereby levied
shall become due and payable at the office of the Tax Assessor -
Collector of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, on or after the
first day of October, A.D. 1950, and if the taxes levied for said
year are not paid on or before January 31st next after becoming
due, interest shall be charged upon the gross amount of the taxes
due and penalty due until paid at the rate of one-half of one
per cent (1/2 of I%) for each month or fraction thereof there-
after. Said interest shall be in addition to such penalties as
may be hereafter provided for delinquent taxes.
SECTION 5. The fact that the passage of an ordinance for
the levying of taxes for the City of Corpus Christi for the year
1950, is necessary and important to the people of the City, and
the further fact that the preparation and completion of the tax
rolls for the year 1950 is dependent on the passage of this or-
dinance, and in order that said tax roll may be completed and
ready for the collection of said taxes, when the same become due
and payable as aforesaid, creates a public emergency and a public
imperative necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter
rule providing that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed
finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance
or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the
City Council and the Mayor having declared that such public em-
ergency and necessity, exist, and having requested that said Charter
rule be suspended and that this Ordinance be finally passed on
the date it is introduced and take effect and be in full force
and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO OR-
DAINED.

Gentlemen:
For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore-
going ordinance, a .public emergency and imperative necessity exist for
the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and
that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at -three meetings of the
City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter
rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
