HomeMy WebLinkAbout02855 ORD - 08/15/1950• Ima ager/ser . 8/15/50 (6) AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACQUIRE LOT 7, BLOCK 6, SAM HOUSTON ADDITION TO THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, FOR THE PURPOSE OF LOCATING A CONNECTING STREET IN SAM HOUSTON ADDITION BY WARRANTY DEED FROM NELSON H. RAIFORD, FOR AND IN CONSIDERATION OF EIGHTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS ($1800.00); SAID CONSIDERATION TO BE PAID AND THE SAME IS HEREBY APPROPRIATED OUT OF NO. 296 IMPROVEMENT BONDS 1950 CONSTRUC- TION FUND (STREET IMPROVEMENTS); AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING SAID CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE AWES - SARI INSTRUMENTS AND TO DO ALL THINGS REQUISITE TO SUCH ACQUISSITION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, The City Zoning and Planning Commission has re- commended that land for the purpose of locating a connecting street in Sam Houston Addition described as Lot 7, Block 6 of Sam Houston Addi- tion in the City of Corpus Christi, County of Nueces, Texas, be acquired; WHEREAS, the property owner has submitted a cempromise proposition agreeing to a sale price for said lot and a compromise of the damages claimed by said property owner by reason of the acquisition of said property by the City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Manager be authorized to acquire that certain tract of land described as follows, to -wit: Lot 7, Block 6 of Sam Houston Addition to the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, said tract being desired for the purpose of locating a conneeting.atreet in Sam Houston Addition to the City of Corpus Christi, for the contract price of Thirteen Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($1350.00) and the compromise of the claim for damages by reason of the acquisition of said lot be made by payment in the amount of Four Hundred and Fifty Dollars (450.00). SECTION 2. That Eighteen Hundred Dollars (1800.00) and title expenses are hereby appropriated out of No. 296 Improvement Bonds 1950 Construe. tion Fund (Street Improvements) upon delivery to the City of Corpus Christi of the deed to' said property. SECTION 3. That there is an urgent need for the extension of Houston Street through to Green Grove Drive in order to preserve the safety of school children in Sam Houston Addition to the City of Corpus Christi creates a necessity and public emergency requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally ea the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared such public emergency and imperative public necessity to exist, requesting the sus— pension of said Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, PP LS ACCORDINGLY S0 ORDAINED. Corpus Christi, Texas , 1950 TO THE LERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL Corpus Christi, Texas Gentlemen: For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore- going ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
